Soaking UHR
Got the 555 UHRs home yesterday and first job was proper pre-soak measurements:
Waist — 22.4”
Front rise — 12.8”
Inseam — 35”
They’d already been hemmed from 37” to 35”. I’ve only got really short legs anyway and wanted enough length left for the big Japanese cuffs I’ve always fancied but never had the balls to try.
Bath time! Hot water, fully submerged, no agitation, with a few jugs and bowls holding everything under the water. I did briefly forget to turn them inside out because excitement apparently overrides instructions but caught it quickly.
An hour later: drained, hung outside in the shade and left to air dry. Once fully dry, and genuinely the CRISPIEST fabric I’ve ever handled , I measured again:
Waist — 21.8”
Front rise — 12.5”
Inseam — 34.2”
So roughly:
0.6” off the flat waist
0.3” off the rise
0.8” off the inseam
All in all not huge numbers, but you can definitely feel it.
I then set the cuffs: 6” folded up, giving me an approx 3.5” finished Japanese cuff. They look a little big but I’ll wear em a while until they loosen up and settle before I decide whether to have more off in length.
Obviously this is only what happened with my pair, so your mileage may vary, but if you’re sizing, hemming or preparing to soak some UHRs yourself, hopefully it helps.
