The Greatness of Episode 8.
Don't want to make this a long post but this episode, specifically Manousos' journey, is some of the best television I've ever watched.
You can tell there is SO much subtext in the English phrases he is practicing, even if we're unaware of what it means just yet -- "The girl saves the mouse from the trap." "The yellow dog chases the gray cat." "I wish to save the world." Not I want to save the world, but I wish. It's just foreshadowing at its best. And the way that part is shot, you can almost feel the plastic cassette in his hand.
The scenery, of course is amazing. For 6 minutes, every single shot is captivating. I could not look away.
The motion design of the map and the marker.
And the indescribably beautiful music of Hermanos Gutierrez overtop of everything.
I haven't been that pulled into an episode of television in a long time. Maybe Episode 8 of Twin Peaks: The Return or ironically Episode 8 of season two of Westworld. Incredible filmmaking. I know others have commented the same on here, but those few minutes of his journey northward were so amazing that I just had to say something about it lol.
