Wow man, Clockwork Orange Similarities

It just dawned on me that the way the people shake when you confront them aggressively or yell at them- they just break down- just like the anti-hero in Clockwork Orange. After he was programmed, he was rendered impotent to violence. It seems that it's kind of representative of the state many find themselves in now. With AI, certain things are much more accomplishable to a super degree, yet one little egg shell crack and we shut down expecting the worst often. I like the show but who's eating the kids.....

Pluribus writers are "working their butts off" on season 2

u/LeoXXX94 — 1 day ago

what happened to the rat?

after it bit the researcher, did the plurbs keep in contact with the rat? is the hivemind just seven billion humans and one rat?

EDIT: when you think about it, the rat has no idea that it landed on the primo intelligence species on the first try. its imperative is to keep biting and infecting animals, creating more hives, so since we don't see that they must be be talking to it right? telling it to just go sit in a corner somewhere?

Rhea Seehorn cast in new Apple Movie

>EXCLUSIVE: Rhea Seehorn (PluribusBetter Call Saul) has joined the cast of Running, a new feature film from director Gavin O’Connor and writer Bill Dubuque. Running follows a homeless high school running prodigy on the hunt for greatness as he uses his gifts to outrun his past and find a family.

If S2 is set to begin in the fall, then she has plenty of time to film this in the summer. I'm betting it's more of a supporting role so she can do all the pre-production stuff that's needed.

Wonder if this one will have a theater release or just on streaming.

Do you see the hivemind as a shared human consciousness or as a singular entity?

I suppose calling it the hivemind is a bit flawed if I personally think of it as an entity, but since everyone had adapted to using that name I’m just gonna call it that.

Now I do see it as a collective consciousness in a way, but I don’t think anything about the way they act is like EVERYONE’s input. I see it as everyone has their memories and motor skills (like flying a plane) put into this consciousness, but they aren’t actually present as this virus is more like a host entity taking over each person.

That’s why it always made sense to me whenever Zosia or any other hive member would act like weird and non-human in a way through social interactions because it’s like, yea. There’s not a single real person thinking behind those eyes. It’s just this like.. thing.. behind there.

I think simply put, I see it as this entity in every single person that has access to all of humanity’s memories and knowledge prior to the Joining but this entity also lives through people in such a way that it IS humanity, it IS these people. But it’s also not. I know this is a tricky topic and is so hard to communicate so I wanted to hear some opinions! What do you think?

Manousos’ frequency ☠️

Sorry if I’m late to the party with this bc I’m sure other cleverer folks have clocked this already, but in my latest rewatch I noticed the frequency of the Hive is 8613. There are 13 individuals (well there *were* 😩) and 86 is code for nixing it… we thinking all the survivors are gonna die/get assimilated at some point?

I know Gilligan has said that he doesn’t really have a master plan all mapped out, but maybe there’s an endgame vision that doesn’t shy away from a “they all die” scenario?

Or maybe it’s a just a little visual joke, like “86ing the 13” is what is always on the Hive’s mind lol

It kinda breaks my heart that Manousos was SO principled that...

...he missed the window of opportunity to connect with Carol before she got seduced by the hivemind.

Just thinking back to when those Plurbs were like, "We can get you to Carol Sturka by nightfall!" If only he had taken them up on it! She still had her "Fuck the hivemind!" attitude at that point, which means the two of them could have bonded more meaningfully and been much more effective at trying to take the hivemind down.

I mean, I obviously get why Manousos soundly rejected every offering of help from the hive mind. And I'd hope that I would be as principled as him, if I were to somehow end up in the same situation. But it still is a bit of a kick to the gut to think about how different the story would be if Manousos hadn't taken so long to get to Carol!

That said, I love this about Vince Gilligan shows. I love that there are so many characters where I'm like, "I totally and completely understand why this character did what they did. But I REALLY WISH they hadn't done that!!"

Did the lab rats have their own hive mind?

When it all started when the lab rats were injected, did that cause the rats to have a hive mind? My theory is that all of the rats acted dead as a plan to spread the virus. This theory might be common but tbh i don't know because i haven't come across someone else talking about it.

Inside season 1 of 'Pluribus' with Vince Gilligan, Rhea Seehorn, and more

>When Carol asked hypothetically if their desire to accommodate her because they love her meant that the Others would give her a bomb in episode 3 — after the Others had ill-advisedly given her a real grenade — "we were not intending to reintroduce the bomb by the end of the season," says Smith. "It just felt like the right thing in episode 3, with Carol pushing on them, saying, 'You really will do anything for love, but you won't do that.'" (Hat tip to a writer mixing dramaturgy and Meat Loaf.)

>We're never looking ahead, but we do look backward a lot," says Carroll, and when Carol hit her lowest point in the finale, they realized it would make sense for her to do "the most extreme reactionary thing she can think of."

>Adds Carroll, “Hopefully, it will make you want to watch episode 201."

>"All I can say is we've discussed that to great length in the room," says Gilligan.

>Regardless of the potential for detonation, he is glad to be back at work with this group of familiar and fresh faces.

This is a great (long) article on the making of the show. The quoted part is the last part of it but recommend reading the whole thing.

What happens when they build the antenna?

As in, what are they going to do after? If their biological imperative is to infect, what happens once they do all they can to achieve their goal?

It's not like they're going to achieve effective space flight if they are using their limited amount of time alive to gut the planet and build a gigantic antenna. Say they build it. What do they do then? Just stand around? Thinking?

The Hive’s memory recall vs. normal human recall

I’m sure this has been mentioned before, but couldn’t figure out the right key words to search.

What really strikes me about the Hive mind is that it seems to not just be a mashup of all human consciousness on a normal human level. Instead, they have an encyclopedic knowledge of every detail of everyone’s lives. With immediate and perfect recall.

I think I first noticed it when they mentioned that Helen consumed cotton candy exactly 4 times in her life. And that Carol wasn’t there any of those times. But would un-Joined Helen be able to confidently and accurately state that same fact? Doubt it. Personally, I know I’ve eaten cotton candy several times. I know it was more than once, probably more than 5. But that’s all my normal human memory can produce.

It also stood out to me when they asked if Carol had read a certain book, then thought about it for half a second and answered their own question, stating that she hadn’t. Since Carol isn’t part of the Hive mind, how could they know that for sure? Even if she didn’t read it in front of someone or buy the book herself, she could have found it or stolen it or otherwise obtained it without any witnesses.

Seems like this is either: something that will be explained more in future seasons, the Hive is lying and has access to Carol’s brain, the Hive is lying and just making shit up and saying it confidently, or a plot hole/unexplained feature.

Hive mind transmission as sort of firewall that destroys potential competition for advanced aliens

This series could be inspired by book series like "3 body problem" where advanced species are both hiding and ruthlessly trying to eradicate all potential competition before they progress too far and become threat.

Maybe the signal is meant to block out emergence of advanced civilizations around the creators species. If nearby species progress far enough to receive radio signals from space and make custom DNA or RNA then this signal would turn them into hive that starves itself to death and dedicates its last generations to producing antenna that would spread this signal further creating sort of enslaved dying zone around the creators.

While the hivemind lives it uses the knowledge to modify genetic material that helps them figure out how to infect those few who are immune to initial version and achieve absolute enslavement. If they somehow avoid starvation for many generations (despite not being willing to harm bugs even if those eat their foodplants) and the creator aliens reach them then they'd be too pacifistic to fight back.

The hive is extremely subservient to all who aren't part of it as is obvious from how they treat the immune who might loath the hive or are actively hostile towards the hive. Even those who want to kill them receive same amount of love and obedience as those who like the hive. If creators arrive then they could easily kill or isolate those few immune individuals and instead command the hive to do what they want. If immune ones use some clever trick to make hive resist invasion peacefully then invader could easily give seizures to the entire hive around the hive by directing negative emotions intensely enough.

This show could be great stepping stone to some dark sci-fi universe about extremely advance aliens that could harness such weapons and who don't play around with lasers or by relying on big alien bugs as is common in many sci-fi settings.

Why so important to convert the immune?

I just binged the season in couple of days. I accidentally signed up for apple tv+ again by trying to use my phone as apple tv remote because the remote-- doesn't matter. This time, the powers at Apple wouldn't grant me a refund. SO, decided to catch this series. I liked it. Big fan of Rhea Seehorn from BCS.

Apologies if this has been discussed before. But why is it so important for the hive mind to convert Carol and the other immunes? Why not just leave them be?

Why didn’t Carol simply ask “them” to bring them all the DNA samples they have of her?

I’m on my second rewatch, the discussion Carol and Zosia have about her eggs and that they are trying to create stem cells from her eggs and are months away at most. Per the posts title. Why didn’t she do that? Would they have said no? I doubt it. They gave her a fucken atom bomb and as far as we know they can’t lie. Even if she just asked “where is the play you are doing this?” She could ask to see it and blow the place up with one of the grendades there so willing to give her.

The title has meaning

This isn’t really that deep but my break down of the title Pluribus/PLUR1BUS

Plur = plural or many

1/I = an individual, one

B = be or becomes

Us

Th title can sort of be seen as the concept many individuals become one us. We. What do you think?
