Tried aerating and seeding with no luck — planning to install sod. What should I do differently this time?

Hi everyone! I'm in Central Texas and could use some lawn advice.

As you can see in the pictures, a large section of my front yard is basically bare soil with little to no grass left. I'm not really sure what caused the grass to die in this area.

I previously tried aerating and seeding, but unfortunately it didn't help.

I'm now planning to install sod (Bermuda grass)in the bare area. Before I do that, I want to make sure I'm addressing whatever caused the problem in the first place so the new sod doesn't end up dying too.

There's a large tree in this area with some exposed roots. I've already had the tree trimmed to allow more sunlight into the area, but I'm still wondering whether the tree roots, remaining shade, soil condition, watering, or something else could be contributing to the problem.

Once the sod is installed, what's the best watering and maintenance routine for the first few weeks so it establishes properly?

I don't have an in-ground sprinkler system, so I'll be using an above-ground sprinkler/hose setup.

Any advice based on the photos would be really appreciated, especially from anyone dealing with lawns in Central Texas.
