Life can be beautiful

I’m starting a JD next week and have a guaranteed attorney job after graduation. I’m not in a single cent of debt and have still had the college experience. I never thought I’d get here but I’m helping my little sister move in to my alma mater tomorrow and it’s hitting me more than when she was accepted. I’m first generation and the first ever to move away for college, she’s the second to do it. Everyone else from our families generation have fallen into drugs or gangs, gone to degree mills, or ended up in debt and retail/customer service out of low tier private colleges. It feels so surreal to be living the American dream at a time when so many are struggling. I’m beyond grateful. Just wanted to share because I don’t want to cry to my network that’s essentially anyone but people of my socioeconomic background.

This girl was enrolled in school last semester, seemingly failed out and couldn’t pay rent this semester (February) and has now moved out. The property manager left her a pay or quit notice in March, she somehow scrounged up some money to pay, and has only recently seemingly gotten a job. I didn’t really talk to her because she was stealing my things when she initially moved in and was generally weird. I don’t even have her number. She had a wellness check called on her sometime last fall as she hadn’t been contacting her family nor attending classes.

My roommates relative showed up today asking for her. I heard a knock at the door in the morning but ignored it thinking it was a unit tour or something. A couple hours go by and I head out to check the mailbox, to my surprise, there’s a random woman standing off to the side of the door. She says she’s my roommates relative and asks to come in, so I let her in and she’s talking to my roommate about who knows what. I’m sitting in the living room working on finals, and the woman walks out, comes back a few minutes later with an elderly woman holding a dog. They quickly pack up all her things and leave without saying a word to me. We have separate leases, so I’m not worried, just confused about what’s going on in this girls life. I called the property manager and let them know that she left, and they’re also confused because they weren’t notified of this move out. She seems to not have known she would be moving out today.

A bull was also loose on our college campus today. It feels like a fever dream.
