13 strangers walked into a café in Lisbon… and left singing Michael Jackson together.

A few weeks ago, we tried an experiment through our Cake & Tea Club in Lisbon.

We invited people to a beginner singing workshop led by Nora, a former lawyer who left her legal career to become a singer and vocal coach.

The only rule? You didn’t need to know how to sing.

Thirteen people came. Most of them had never sung in front of anyone before.

We started with humming exercises because everyone was a little nervous. Then Nora gradually helped us find our voices, one tiny step at a time.

Less than an hour later, all 13 of us were standing together singing Heal the World by Michael Jackson.

It wasn’t perfect. But somehow, it didn’t matter.

There was something really moving about hearing people from different countrie.. most of whom had met only an hour earlier.. singing together. ☺️☺️💛

Afterwards, we stayed for homemade vegan & gluten-free lemon blueberry cake from our little home bakery, Lisbon Bakes, along with tea and coffee. We ended up chatting for hours, laughing about how none of us thought we’d actually be able to sing when we first arrived.

It reminded me how many adults secretly want to try creative things but think they’re “not artistic enough.”

Sometimes all it takes is one person creating a safe space.

We’re planning another session soon, and it made me wonder…

If you live in Lisbon, what’s one creative hobby you’ve always wanted to try but never had the courage to?
