Engagement location

Hi everyone,
My girlfriend is half portuguese and we’re planning to visit Lisbon again this summer. It is our 5 year anniversary and I play to ask her the big question. However, I’m still looking for the right location. I’m thinking not too setup, more natural and classic like in a restaurant or somewhere beautiful, not with a big ‘marry me’ lightbox haha.
Her grandma still has a place in Lisbon and shes been there a lot so I’d like to skip the touristy locations.
We had some great memories at ‘Palácio do Grilo’, a palace within the city with a restaurant combined with theatre. Unfortunately, the restaurant is closed until further notice. Can anyone help me with finding the perfect location? Muito Obrigado!

Need advice on buses/ trains to Faro

I'll be visiting Portugal in a month's time and I need to travel from Lisbon to Faro for the second part of my trip. I'm trying to figure out how to get to Faro Airport and the transit options that I've encountered are: ALSA, comboios de portugal (cp) and Rede Express. And they all have terrifiying, horrible reviews.

Are these companies my only options? What is the best way to travel to Faro from Lisbon? Also I'll be travelling solo as a female so safety is important. Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

Best place to see a doctor in Lisbon as a tourist?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently in Lisbon for a few days and I think I might need to see a doctor 😅
Nothing super urgent, but I would prefer a place where people speak English and where I won’t spend hours waiting.

Does anyone have recommendations for a clinic or medical center that is tourist-friendly?

Thanks a lot!

Advice for a layover in Lisbon

I am a US citizen and I will be in Paris in July. My flight back to Chicago has a 13 hour layover in Lisbon. The first flight lands at 22:50 and the flight back to Chicago leaves the next day at 12:30.

Instead of sleeping at the airport, I'm thinking about getting a hotel in Lisbon so I can sleep well, wake up, have a cup of coffee in a Lisbon cafe, and Uber to the airport in time for my flight.

Is this a realistic plan? There's no immigration to deal with on a flight between Paris and Lisbon, right? So I can realistically get to the hotel 90 minutes after we land? I won't have any checked baggage.

Would love to hear thoughts. Thank you in advance!

Is Cascais worth visiting 1out of the 3.5 days in Lisbon?

I arrive in Lisbon on 8 AM on Sunday so I’m sure I’ll be jet lagged. That being said, I’m looking for something relaxing to do on my first day. I was thinking of going straight to Cascais to go to the beach, sight see, eat dinner, and stay the night before going back to Lisbon Monday morning. I would have 2 full days in Lisbon on Monday and Tuesday, then I have a 2 PM flight to Barcelona on Wednesday. Is Cascais worth going for 1 of the 3 full days I’ll have while in there? Or should I spend all 3 days in Lisbon? Thanks!

Seeking the Best Authentic Café in Picoas!

I'm on a mission to discover the best authentic café in Picoas. I'm craving a spot where I can enjoy coffee paired with some locally made pastries for breakfast. It would be amazing if the café had a calm and relaxing vibe to just start the day. If you know any hidden gems, please share your recommendations! Thanks!

Deviated septum surgery

Hello, I was wondering if anyone here has had deviated septum surgery done in Lisbon and, if so, who performed it, how long the procedure took, the recovery time, etc.

It's an operation I've been meaning to have for a while, but I've kept putting it off. Now that I'm in Lisbon, I'm thinking I could finally have it done here.

Thanks for your replies!

LOST / POSSIBLY STOLEN JACKET – LISBON AIRPORT TERMINAL 2

LOST / POSSIBLY STOLEN JACKET – LISBON AIRPORT TERMINAL 2

On 14 May around 16:00 I lost my Desigual jacket at Lisbon Airport Terminal 2, after the security check, somewhere between security and the first duty free shop area.

The jacket is very recognizable (photo attached).

There was Romanian cash inside the pocket.

I immediately informed airport staff and airport police, and they started checking the security cameras, but I had to board my flight before receiving any update.

If anyone found it or has any information, please contact me.

Flight: W43410 Lisbon → Cluj-Napoca

Email: dr.andreaban@gmail.com

Thank you very much for any help.

AVOID Canna-Cali Cannabis store! Selling synthetic weed/spice

My husband and I were visiting from Canada and came across this weed shop. In Canada, weed is legal and we smoke regularly. We noticed this place had several customers in and out, so we decided to purchase a joint. The dark-haired girl working told me that the weed was THC. Looked and smelled like weed. When we got back to our airbnb, we took 1-2 small puffs, and within minutes my husband was in and out of consciousness, vomiting profusely, not responding, and seizing. I called an ambulance and we were rushed to the hospital. I was advised that since weed is illegal in Portugal, we were likely given something synthetic. After doing our research and reading reviews (which we should have beforehand) we determined we were given “spice” or K2, which can be lethal. Do your research and stay away from this place. I know we’re dumb for trusting but I also know we’re not the only ones this has happened to.

Non European woman visiting Lisbon for a week, how should I plan my trip?

Hello all, I'm an Indian student who'll be coming to Lisbon for a week to attend summer school. I'm very new to Europe so forgive me if I sound naive.

How should I plan travelling around the city? Is public transport common and are there any passes I can buy for the week? My company will provide my accommodation, are there any particular areas which would be nice to stay in?

I'll have some time after my lectures to explore the city, is nightlife prevalent there?

I see a lot of tensions between Portuguese and Indians online, is that something that might affect my experience there? I don't intend to be offensive, but I don't want to be judged for things that are beyond my individual control.

Question about LIS airport while pregnant

Hello - I will be traveling to/from Lisbon from NYC in June. I will be 25 weeks pregnant. I am traveling with my aunt (75 years old) and my cousin on TAP in business class. Obviously I am nervous about the lines for passport check on both ends of my trip (I've flown to Lisbon twice before but it's been a couple years). Question: being obviously pregnant, will me and my family be able to flag down a staff member and use a dedicated, shorter line?

Another layer: my three sisters are also coming on this trip but arriving economy class from a different US city/airline (about one hour before my flight arrives). There will be six of us total. If there's a crazy long line to get in upon arrival, do you think it's possible that a staff member will allow me to pull them out of line and all six of us to go with my big pregnant self through the elderly/disabled/pregnant line? Since we're all traveling together it seems like that makes sense, otherwise I'll have to wait for them to exit the airport anyway.

Thank you for all tips!!!

places in Lisbon to sit and draw

I like to sit in cafés and draw. Not professionally or anything, just to slow down, drink a coffee, and sketch whatever's around me.

I've lived in Lisbon for 6 years and never visited Cristo Rei. A few weekends ago some friends and I finally went, and we discovered there's a path that takes you from Cristo Rei all the way down to a garden right on the Tejo. It was a fun little adventure. At the end we sat on the grass, had some snacks, and I spent an hour drawing the bridge with the river in front of me.

I'm sharing this because even after 6 years here I'm still finding places like this for the first time.

Do you have any other spots in Lisbon with this kind of vibe? Calm, a bit hidden, good for just sitting and being?

20 things I wouldn't recommend in Lisbon

Recently I shared 20 things to do in Lisbon and today I wanted to talk about 20 things I personally would not recommend.

IMPORTANT: this is just my opinion and shouldn’t be taken too seriously

Buying tiles at Feira da Ladra (flea market)

Eating at one of the restaurants on Rua Augusta

Taking Tram 28 from Martim Moniz

Waiting in line for the Santa Justa Lift

Taking a tuk tuk around the tourist areas

Wearing inappropriate shoes for Lisbon’s pavement, especially on rainy days

Speaking Spanish because you assume Portuguese people speak Spanish

Taking a taxi from the airport to your accommodation

Staying in an Airbnb in the historic centre

Having drinks on Pink Street

Spending a Santo António night in Bica

Having lunch or dinner at the Time Out Market

Spending an afternoon at LX Factory

Spending a beach day in Carcavelos

Eating brunch in the Cais do Sodré / Chiado area

Waiting more than 5 minutes in line at Bifanas do Afonso

Eating pastel de bacalhau with Serra cheese and Port wine

Buying Lisbon souvenirs in souvenir shops downtown

Staying seated on public transport while elderly people are standing

Only trying pastel de nata places and never visiting a traditional Portuguese pastelaria

Looking for 3–5 people in Lisbon who actually know the best spots worth working from

Hi there I'm building Deskmate — a curated maps of the best work/coffee spots remote workers and locals actually spend time in.

I'm looking for ppl in Lisbon who are interested in curating the local map with me. You can just share the spots, write your takes, and have your name listed as a Deskmate curator on the map. We specifically want opinionated picks from people who care about taste :P

Deskmate curators get their own bios, early access to features we ship before public releas, and intros to café and venue partners if you are interested in doing some collabs.

The ability to host your own coworking meetups through Deskmate if that's a thing you want to do

If you're interested, drop a comment or just simply drop your spots on our map: desk-mate[dot]ai .

DMs open too :)

Best high end café alternative to Ladurée in Lisbon?

It’s become a bit of a tradition for me to visit Ladurée whenever I’m in Europe, but it looks like the Lisbon location may have closed. Does anyone have recommendations for a high end café in Portugal with a similar atmosphere and quality of food?
