I’m so conflicted

So, almost a week ago, I posted on this sub that my mom had experienced right sided tingling/burning.

My mom had a minor ischemic stroke 2 months ago that affected her left side.

The neurologist on call in the ER said that this may or may not be a TIA. We did a lot of tests, including an MRI, CTA, holter monitor, and EEG, and all came out normal. However, that doctor still suggested that we start dual antiplatelet therapy for 3 months.

Three months seemed like a long time to me, considering the bleeding risk, so we went to our primary neurologist, who was the one who treated my mom during her first stroke. According to him, it was just anxiety and not a TIA, so she should just continue taking aspirin only.

I’m so conflicted right now. I don’t understand which doctor I should follow.

I was hoping that someone who has been in similar situation could provide me with some advice.

TIA after stroke

Has anyone here had a TIA a few months after their stroke despite being on aspirin and a statin the whole time? If so, what did the doctors do about it?

I’m so confused and worried

My mom (60) had a stroke exactly 2 months ago. She had lacunar ischemic stroke affecting her right lentiform nucleus causing left sided slight weakness and facial drooping. She had TTE done and got her carotid arteries checked (showed a very small plaque in her right carotid artery but not significant enough to cause stenosis) apart from MRI and CT scans.

She was on DAPT for 3 weeks and then on aspirin, amlodipine and statin.

Today after eating lunch she suddenly complained of burning sensation on right side of her body, her chest and vibration in both her legs. I checked her BP and it was 160/90 her heart rate was elevated in 120s.

Before taking her to ER her BP did fall to 130/80 but her heart rate stayed elevated throughout.

At the ER they did a CT scan and ECG. Her CT scan showed an infarct of right basal ganglia probably the old one and nothing more. ECG showed ST depression.

They checked her electrolytes and her Potassium was rather low 2.78. Doctors say that might explain the chest discomfort.

Currently she’s on holter monitors and advised to get an MRI and CTA. The doctors suspect it’s a TIA but they’re not even sure about that

The reason I’m writing this post is because nothing is making sense to me. Could this have been a TIA? If it were a TIA aren’t the typical symptoms supposed to be numbness and weakness I haven’t heard of burning before?

I’m very worried nothing is making sense to me.

I know the doctors know better but since I was hoping if someone had a similar experience they they could share with me.

Can hf store be trusted?

The price seems a bit off for a brand new box pack phone and that too pta approved. Can I trust them? Has anyone bought something similar from them?

Cryptogenic stroke

My mother (60) had a stroke 6 weeks ago. She has recovered from the neurological deficits almost completely (she had facial drooping and slight left sided weakness).

The doctors performed MRI, CT scan, carotid Doppler, echo and some blood tests on her. Almost all results were fine except the MRI which showed:

Subacute infarct in right lentiform nucleus measuring 11x13mm
Early microvascular angiopathic changes
Early age related brain atrophy

Apart from that her blood tests were also mostly normal although at upper limit like cholesterol was 188mg/dl,
LDL was 127mg/L and VLDL was 22mg/dL.

The only noticeable findings were HDL which was rather low 36mg/dL and ALP which was high 160 IU/L

The reason why I’m posting on Reddit is because the doctors have discharged us after prescribing the routine meds aspirin, statin and amlodipine but they never told us the reason why it happened. My mother is obese and has HbA1C of 5.7% so barely pre diabetic and she has never been diagnosed with hypertension. 5 months before her stroke she had a nose bleed and I recorded her BP 3 times a day for 3 days and all readings were normal so it’s difficult for me to believe she had undiagnosed hypertension.

I’m very worried because I think we’re still missing the cause of her stroke and if this continues her chance of having a recurrent stroke will increase.

Did anyone else have a stroke similar to this? If yes then what additional investigations did you do?

Could this be a TIA?

My mom (60F) had a lacunar ischemic stroke 22 days ago that affected her right lentiform nucleus. She had facial drooping, slurred speech and lost her balance. Her BP was 200/110. Thankfully she has recovered almost completely and did not require any physiotherapy.

She has been on dual antiplatelet therapy (prescribed for 3 weeks), amlodipine, rosuvastatin and anti anxiety medications like escitalopram, pregablin, quetiapine and alp. Today she has started her single anti platelet regimen (75mg aspirin).

4 days ago she complained of slight blurred vision in both eyes and restlessness. I checked her BP and it was normal so we thought it was due to low blood sugar level since she hasn’t been eating properly due to acid reflux caused by aspirin for which she’s taking omeprazole. So we gave her juice and she said she felt slightly better.

Shortly after we had to go somewhere and there my mom complained that after looking at the lights for too long her vision blurred again so gave her water and some bananas and she said she felt better.

This episode lasted for 3 hours I’m not sure whether the vision had stayed blurred throughout or not but the restlessness certainly did. She did not have trouble walking or seeing our faces.

The next day she said that her vision had become much better than yesterday and she has been fine ever since although she does say that looking at lights or TV for a long time causes her vision to blur. She can read and even stitch normally.

Sometimes she also has one sided mild headaches and complains of tingling in one side of her head and her BP whenever I check is within the normal range and this has been going on since the day she was discharged from the hospital after her stroke.

She also has history of anxiety, depression and panic attacks.

She has no history of diabetes. Her carotid Doppler and echo came out to be normal. Her ecg at the time of stroke showed ST depression and the following ecg came out to be normal.

Height: 5’3
Weight: 83kg

I’m very concerned if this was a TIA considering she’s on DAPT right now so something like a TIA shouldn’t be happening. I have scheduled an appointment with a neurologist but I feel like he’ll brush it off.
