My Sweetheart The Drunk
Can anyone fill me in on the disc 2 of this album?
songs like Gunshot Glitter, Your Flesh is So Nice and Demon John are so captivating to me because of their haunting production and sound. Most of the songs on disc 2 sound very unpolished and obviously they are only demos but they sound so drastic and contrary and frankly quite disturbing compared to the rest of the album. Was he recording the instrumentals all on his own without the band in Memphis? Do we have any idea how his mental health was at the time of writing and recording these tracks? Even on Thousand Fold, while being a more coherent track still sounds very rough. I don't know if that had to do with his declining mental state at the time or if it literally was just unfinished. Murder Suicide Meteor Slave
has a very distorted instrumental that sounds too hectic to be excused as a throwaway demo. It's all very intriguing yet saddening to me because I think these rougher songs on disc 2 kind of show his mental decline throughout the production of MSTD.
Nothing I said was meant to be harmful or intrusive, I have always been curious if we as fans have any answers as to why these demos sound the way they do and if it has anything to do with how Jeff felt during that time. I love the songs on mstd they carry such interesting and cool ideas from one of my favorite artists ever!
