The movie must be from late 80s or very early 90s. I just remember one scene. The main character convinces the villain to put on the VR glasses. He puts them on and there he sees himself in a TV game show like environment. His VR persona then comes to the villain and puts his hand down his throat and thus choking him to death. I think this is towards the very end of the movie. And that's how the hero (and perhaps his gf) escape the villain. The hero is a programmer I think, because the way he has programmed the VR glasses should not be possible. But this is also the way the villain(s) have been killing other people.

Not sure, but I think the villain looks like Sam Neill or Robert Wagner. But I looked through their filmographies and couldn't find anything that fits in.

Maybe it was from some series episode but I am much more sure it was from a movie. And the movie seemed to be expensive enough for cinemas, so no direct to VHS or only for TV movie.

Completely sure it is a Hollywood movie.

I have looked through many lists of VR movies for 80s and 90s and none of them fit in. Appreciate any input.
