Should you guys ever buy medallions in BTD Battles? , or just Buy the chest amplifiers.

Im playing as a Goliath / Paladin Hybrid in our Next Campaign, we have Session 0 this Thursday, my Question is , Could I play Paladin as a Tank , or a Healer , Or other class ? And what would the best approach be for all of these ?
