Unemployment question
I’m wondering if I might qualify for unemployment if I resign. I know no one can say for sure, but I’m curious if anyone has been in a similar situation.
My employer recently changed my regular work schedule with relatively short notice. I had been working a consistent schedule for a while and had planned personal commitments and medical appointments around it. When I spoke with management, I explained that I needed a predictable schedule and asked if I could return to my previous schedule, but I was told no.
I was also told that if I wanted certain days to remain off in the future, I would need to submit PTO requests for those days, even though I couldn’t find anything in our written policy requiring employees to use PTO to keep their regularly scheduled days off.
This wasn’t the only issue. Over time there were multiple scheduling changes, poor communication from management, unanswered emails regarding scheduling and PTO, and inconsistent direction from supervisors. Before deciding to resign, I met with management to try to resolve the scheduling concerns, but nothing changed.
Based on that, does this sound like it could qualify as “good cause” for quitting under Washington unemployment, or is it more likely that a claim would be denied? I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with Washington ESD in a similar situation.
