Would firefighting be a good extracurricular for transferring or should I stick to things specifically related to my major

I’m a volunteer firefighter where I live and I thought about joining the fire department at my university. However, my dad warned me against it because it’s not related to my major at all and he told me to only specifically do things related to my major (Finance) because anything else would be a waste of time. Is he right?

Volunteer fire department at Binghamton

I plan on doing more research on this but is there any chance I can join a volunteer fire department while also attending Bing?

Also if it is possible that I can join one, since I’m also going to be a first year student I’m not going to have a car so is there any way I can bring my car with me because I’m not sure how I would be able to attend the calls.

Some context behind the question:

I offered this girl I talk to sometimes water because she mentioned how she wanted water. I’m not like super close to her -maybe close enough to say hi in the hallways and talk to her for a bit during track and we’ve only became friends kinda the past few weeks. She straight up directly drank from my bottle. How did she not find that gross???

And this led me to think more about it. Some girl offered me a bite of her ice cream. At a party a bunch of guys were drinking from the same beer bottle. Like wtf?

The idea of sharing something with someone who isn’t family or a significant other is like so gross to me how do people just do it so easily even with people they aren’t particularly close with?
