CASE NOTE // THOMAS HAWKINS

DATE: 10/12/2014

TIME: 11:42 PM

LOCATION: Hurricane Police Department

STATUS: OPEN

People think the dead are buried.

They are not.

They are filed away.

Names. Dates. Photographs. Little mistakes.

A child disappears.

A man signs the report.

A city learns to sleep around the hole.

I have been looking at old Freddy Fazbear files for six hours.

Most of them are incomplete.

Some were corrected by hand.

Some were corrected more than once.

That bothers me. I'll need testimonies.

A mistake happens once.

A lie needs maintenance.

Top-down or 2.5D? I’d like to hear what you think about OUT OF ORDER’s direction

Hey everyone.

I’ve been thinking about the visual direction of OUT OF ORDER and wanted to ask something honestly.

Right now, the game is a top-down pixel art story game with investigation, exploration, dialogue portraits, horror sequences, combat encounters, and more cinematic cutscenes.

But creatively, I’ve been wondering about a possible 2.5D direction someday: something closer to a Paper Mario-like approach, with 2D character sprites standing inside a simple 3D world/diorama.

Not full realistic 3D, and not replacing the emotional pixel art identity, more like keeping the characters as 2D sprites, but giving the environments more depth, lighting, camera movement, and cinematic space.

For example:

- top-down = clearer, more classic RPG/horror feeling, easier to read, more consistent with the current assets

- 2.5D = more depth, more cinematic horror, stronger lighting, more dramatic environments, but also a much bigger production risk

To be clear, OUT OF ORDER is already deep into development, and a lot of assets are already made. So this is not me announcing a sudden change. I’m mostly curious about what people would actually prefer from this kind of FNAF story game.

Would you rather see OUT OF ORDER stay as a polished top-down pixel art game?

Or would a 2.5D version, with 2D sprites in a 3D world, make the project feel more unique and immersive to you?

I’d love to hear honest thoughts.

Day 4 of making pixel-art abstract posters to my game until it releases. (Over the Garden Wall) + A massive thanks!

Thank you to everyone on this subreddit. Thanks to you, my desire to create content has finally been rekindled. This game is being made out of passion. I hope you enjoy it when it's released!
