Question: Comm Arts/Art Program Class Specifics & Recommendations

I'm trying to come up with a make-shift plan for my degree in Communication Arts and I'm hoping I can get some input on a few big questions, hopefully from some other students in the Art Program. For reference, I'm focused on Character Design, 3D Modeling, and 2D/3D Animation.

COAR Upper Div Electives

Do any of these courses overlap with other COAR Major electives or Major Requirements? I would assume that stuff like Color Theory is taught in other classes, just not the focus. I'm pretty sure I'm going to want to take COAR 309, COAR 327, COAR 425, and COAR 432. Should I double up with COAR 328 as well?

·         COAR 303 Color Theory and Practice

·         COAR 305 Figure in Illustration

·         COAR 308 Cut Scene

·         COAR 309 3D II

·         COAR 320 Concept Drawing

·         COAR 326 Imagery for Science Fiction and Fantasy

·         COAR 327 Comics and Graphic Novels I

·         COAR 328 Comics and Graphic Novels II

·         COAR 392. Research/Individual Study (1-6 Credits)

·         COAR 399 Applied Arts Lab (0-4 Credits)

·         COAR 425 Storytelling and Animation Production

·         COAR 432 3D III

·         COAR 435 3D IV

·         COAR 492 Communication Arts Internship (1-6 Credits)

Open Upper Div Electives

Should I take another writing course before PHTO 390 (Part of the Animation Minor)? Should I take a different writing class instead of PHTO 390? (I would meet the Minor's required elective requirement either way because of COAR 203, COAR 321, and KINE 348)

·         Writing Course?: ENGL 303. Writing for Stage and/or Screen (PreReq Gen Ed ENGL 250)

or ENGL 307. Writing Fiction

or AMPT 402. Editorial Storytelling

or AMPT 404. Script (these were the four I could readily find that weren't locked behind reqs or Majors)

·         KINE 345. Animation Concepts (4 Credits)

·         KINE 448. 3D Computer Animation (4 Credits)

·         KINE 458. Virtual Interactive Worlds (4 Credits)

Animation Minor

Might not be a question that can be answered here, but can I elect to not use eligible credits toward the Open Upper Div electives if they overlap with the Minor electives and instead take other classes to fulfill their elective requirements separately?

·         KINE 245. Animation Practices

·         ARTH 370. History of Animated Film (Fulfills Minor and Major Requirement)

·         KINE 405. Animation Studio

Minor Electives

·         COAR 203. 3D I: Digital 3D Sculpting

·         COAR 321. Illustration I: Sequential

·         KINE 348. 3D Computer Art (4 Credits)

·         PHTO 390. Writing and Directing for the Screen

Remaining Gen Eds

I'm transferring in two classes for my Breadth of Knowledge Humanities/Fine Arts and my UNIV 111. So, I need a math, a natural science, a social science, and 3 extra Gen Eds. These are the ones that stood out to me, but feel free to let me know about other cool ones. I believe I may not have to take the lab portion of Physics, hence the question mark.

·         ENGL 250 Reading Film

·         MHIS 252 Soundscapes

·         SPCH 221 Oral Communication and Presentation

·         TEDU 212 Creating Digital Art and Music Through Computer Coding

·         ADMS 256 Human Dimensions of Leadership: Empathy, Trust and Care in Organizations

·         IDST 210 Micro Internships and Career Design

·         POLI/INTL 105 International Relations

·         BUSN 205 Introduction to the World of Business

·         ECON 205 The Economics of Product Development and Markets

·         FIRE 201 Personal Financial Planning

·         PHYS 101 Foundations of Physics + Lab?

·         MATH 131 Introduction to Contemporary Mathematics
