2025 g14 GPU fan at 0 RPM under load, exhausted software fixes. Planning to DIY replace the fan — realistic fix?

Update to my earlier post. Full rundown of where I'm at:

The problem: GPU (RTX 5070 Ti) fan stays at 0 RPM under real thermal load — confirmed across Task Manager, HWiNFO64, G-Helper, and FurMark, consistently. GPU hits 82-87°C sustained (real gaming and FurMark stress test at 100% usage for a full 60-sec run) with zero fan response. CPU fan works completely normally throughout.

MyASUS's own diagnostic tool ran a forced fan test and the GPU fan DID spin during that specific test — flagged it afterward as a hardware issue anyway. It just never responds during normal automatic thermal operation, no matter how hot it gets.

Everything tried, all ruled out:

  • Fan curve confirmed correctly configured (reset to factory defaults, verified shape)
  • Enabled "Armoury Crate Control Interface Support" in BIOS (was disabled)
  • Rolled back AND reinstalled ASUS System Control Interface (ASCI) driver
  • Updated BIOS to latest version (310)
  • Full clean NVIDIA driver wipe + reinstall via DDU
  • Confirmed both NVIDIA and AMD drivers already at latest versions
  • Attempted manual EC reset (extended power-button hold, unplugged)
  • Checked Device Manager for ACPI Fan / ASCI errors
  • Tested multiple GPU modes (Standard, checked Ultimate)

Leading theory : possibly a failed tach/RPM sensor rather than a dead motor. the hall-effect sensor lives inside the fan unit itself, separate circuit leg from the power/PWM line. If the EC isn't getting sensor feedback, it may never attempt to spin the fan under normal auto operation, even though the motor itself is fine (which would explain why it spun under MyASUS's forced test but nothing else).

Where I'm at now: looked into warranty repair through Best Buy (purchased there) — they quoted 4 weeks, sent out, no guarantee it's covered or fixed even with active warranty. Given the timeline, I'm considering just buying a replacement fan (found GA403WR-compatible listings, part number 13NR0MA0AP0102 among others) and doing it myself.

Question: does a full fan swap make sense here given the tach-sensor theory, or should I be looking at something else entirely?

GA403WR GPU fan stuck at 0 RPM under load, CPU fan works fine.

Got this G14 (GA403WR, Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, RTX 5070 Ti) used a couple days ago. Noticed GPU temps climbing higher than expected during gaming, but also not crazy high, hitting around 87C, checked and the GPU fan is reading 0 RPM across every tool I’ve tried: HWiNFO64, G-Helper, and FurMark’s built-in monitoring while the CPU fan runs completely normally.

What I’ve already tried, no luck:

Confirmed the GPU fan curve is correctly configured, not flat/broken in ghelper, then reinstalled armory crate and checked there aswell

Enabled “Armoury Crate Control Interface Support” in BIOS (was disabled)

Rolled back and reinstalled the last ASUS System Control Interface driver I had

Updated BIOS to the latest version (310)

Tested in Standard GPU mode

Ran MyASUS diagnostic tool and when it did a forced fan test, the GPU fan DID spin during that specific test — but it doesn’t respond to normal thermal triggers during actual gaming/stress load and after the test it flagged the fan even though it did infact spin and I felt heavy air coming out of the gpu vent

Anyone got any ideas?

EDIT:
Since I posted this, I also:
Rolled back ASUS System Control Interface (ASCI) v3 driver to test if it was the cause — no change in fan behavior

Reinstalled ASCI back to current version after rollback

Ran a full clean NVIDIA driver wipe and reinstall via DDU (Safe Mode), with the driver pre-downloaded to eliminate any gap between wipe and reinstall — no change

Confirmed both NVIDIA (610.88) and AMD graphics drivers are already at latest available versions

Ran a dedicated GPU stress test (FurMark) instead of just gaming — sustained 87°C, 100% GPU usage for a full 60-second run, fan remained at 0 RPM throughout

Attempted a manual EC reset via extended power-button hold (30-60 sec, unplugged) — no change

Confirmed GPU fan curve is correctly shaped (not flat/broken) after an earlier reset to factory defaults

Checked Device Manager’s ACPI Fan driver-level errors

Result: fan remains unresponsive to all real thermal load across every test, every tool (Task Manager, HWiNFO64, G-Helper, FurMark), consistently, despite every software/firmware-level fix attempted. MyASUS’s diagnostic tool remains the only thing that got the fan to spin, during its own internal forced test — everything mimicking real-world thermal response fails.

I’m loosing my mind over this, please help😭

Looking for advice

I’m about to be 21, currently in the marine corps, interested in a lineman apprenticeship, specifically IBEW Local 595 in the Bay Area. The thing is though I’m pending a court martial and am expecting a bad conduct discharge for a drug related offense. Is a career in linemen plausible and what would the odds realistically be of getting accepted. If so, how long can I expect to wait on an apprenticeship, what can I do to better my odds/ make me more competitive to be accepted and just advice in general. I heard that working for pg&e as a ground man first can help but I don’t really know anyone in the trade to ask questions to. And finally what does the njtac test really look like and what part usually trips people out. I’ve fucked up during my time as a marine but Id like to make a change and do better.

Thank you to anyone giving their time to help me out on my questions a little bit, yall are doing gods work🫡🙏
