Where to access 2-year math acceleration in Middle School? (Magnolia, Queen Anne, Ballard area)
As of SY 2026-27, rising 6th graders that meet Math MAP (RIT) score thresholds are eligible to access a 2-year math acceleration pathway previously only offered to Highly Capable students attending HC Cohort and Pathway schools. They do so by taking the Summer Math Program to complete Math 6 over the summer. (Details: 2026 Highly Capable Summer Math Program - Seattle Public Schools)
The 2-year accelerated math progression is: Summer as a rising 6th grader: Math 6 > 6th Grade: Math 7/8 > 7th grade: Algebra > 8th grade: Geometry. To be able to access the whole 2-year math pathway in a single school, the school would need to 1) allow rising 6th graders who have completed the Summer Math Program to take Math 7/8 in 6th grade, AND 2) offer or plan to offer Geometry in SY 2028-29 to these 6th graders when they are in 8th grade.
Families are finding that *eligibility* to accessing the 2-year math pathway is not the same as actually being *able and allowed* to access the pathway, depending on the school they are enrolled in for the middle school grades. As this is a new program announced and in effect for the 2026-27 school year, information is scarce and often not publicly available.
To support decision making for families who have taken or are considering taking the Summer Math Program as a way to access 2-year accelerated math in the middle school grades, I'm crowd-sourcing a list of schools and the classes they are offering for SY 2026-27. I am listing only the schools I have the information for, which does not cover all schools in the area, and am soliciting information for more schools to be added to the post. Post will be updated as more information becomes available.
