Does this lore work and is it good?

I want to know if the early lore for my homebrew chapter contradicts any canon or doesn’t make sense at all. Honest opinions are also appreciated.

The Knellers basic lore

Following the hardships that came with the age of apostasy, the imperium began to utilize stabilized gene seed to create new chapters to fill the gaps that were left open by the chapters who died, got lost in the warp, or turned traitor. One of these chapters, of the 23rd founding, was the Knellers chapter.

The purpose of their specific creation was to assist in the Malagantine Purge in the Malagantine Sector, alongside the Fire Hawks, Silver Skulls, and Charnel Guard chapters. However, on the way to the sector, the chapter was quickly swallowed by a warp storm. But instead of being lost for centuries, the chapter was quickly spit out in the Meratis Cluster, an area which recently had been turning into a lawless area of space where renegades and pirates roamed free and the Meratech Clans had formed and taken control of the area.

After arriving in the sector, and seeing that the closest planet was indeed full of renegades, the Knellers began their wholesale slaughter of the surrounding populations. They were armed by the imperium to kill every single person on every single planet, space station, and asteroid mine they found, even using the Life Eater Virus which was given to all the Malagantine Executioners to erase all life from the worlds they razed.

For 8 years the chapter was decimating population after population, loyalist or not. They had carved their way near the edge of the Meratis Cluster, and an inquisitor who had been in the area saw what was happening on a loyalist world and demanded to know why they were razing an imperial planet. Because of the absolute secrecy of the Malagantine Purge, the chapter said nothing except that they are here and this is their mission, and that they would not stray from it. After being threatened by the inquisitor, the chapter threatened them in return, saying again that they would not stray from their mission.

The inquisitor took this information straight to the high lords of terra, whom then sent a force of Red Hunters (An Inquisition aligned Astartes chapter) to stop the Knellers and convince them that they are in the wrong sector, or be destroyed. They were also sent to kill the original inquisitor who discovered the Knellers, as the reality of the Malagantine Purge and the “Hands of Wrath” chapters must be kept in absolute secrecy.

The Red Hunters moved into the cluster to corner the Knellers, and as they did they issued a vox message telling the Knellers that the high lords of terra said their mission is elsewhere, and that they are catching innocent imperial planets in their path of carnage. The Knellers refused to believe it, as for the last 8 years they believed that they were filling out the orders they were indoctrinated to follow. After much back and forth, the Red Hunters seeing no agreement in sight, assulted the Knellers ships.

For 2 years the chapters battled on and around 3 planets, New Canton, Garrison, and Red Ridge. During the war the Red Hunters received reinforcements from the Adeptus Sororitas (Order of the Bloody Rose) and the Doom Eagles chapter. Eventually the Knellers were cornered. With barely 300 marines and their void assets crippled, they surrendered to the imperial forces, which they now realized were right all along. The high lords of terra agreed that though the chapter slaughtered many imperial forces, they also proved themselves overwhelmingly effective in combat. So instead of execution, the Knellers were sentenced to a 100 year long penitentiary crusade in the Charadon Sector, to combat the Orks at the beginning of “The Waning”.
