Considering A1 as first printer
I’ve never 3D printed anything before, but I’m very impressed by some of the things I see people make on r/fdmminiatures with the A1 and think I’d like to try it myself.
I am concerned with the fire risk posts I’ve been seeing lately, on one post with a failed thermistor there were maybe 5 other people who said they’d experienced the same thing. I saw a post claiming there have been over 200, which sounds like a lot, but if it’s only old models and they’ve sold hundreds of thousands of A1’s with no issues since I could probably accept that. How isolated are these incidents?
Also, for every post where someone says they’ve been running an A1 for hundreds of hours with no issues, there’s at least one post of someone getting very upset troubleshooting.
It seems people have very different experiences with the A1, but they seem mostly favorable for the price point. This might not be the best place to ask, but would you recommend the A1 as a first and hopefully only 3D printer? Do people typically spend as much time troubleshooting as they do printing? Are there a lot of hidden costs with troubleshooting, buying replacement parts and filament from failed prints? It seems like it could be a very frustrating hobby, but if I can get the results I’ve seen on r/fdmminiatures a dozen or so hours of troubleshooting seems worth it.
Thank you for any help!
