5HTP and Buspirone?

1 no. I have confirmed pelvic floor dyssynergia and rectal hypersensitivity and am making progress in PT with biofeedback (balloon training)

2 just constipation

5 Maybe? I tapered off 20mg Lexapro as quickly as safely possible (under supervision) about 15 months ago. I had been taking it for 9 years and 8 at that dose. I also had a catastrophic l4 disc herniation in June 2025 that resulted in needing an emergency microdiscectomy to prevent cadua equina syndrome. It healed well but the constipation started about 8-10 weeks post-op. I was only on opioids for a week.

Is anybody taking Buspirone and a 5HTP pro-kinetic. I really want to try the Pure Encapsulations MotilPro before I make the jump to Motegrity but am afraid of potential serotonin syndrome. Neither my psychiatric nor GI provider can predict whether or not this will happen, although both say it “should” be okay.

I am currently laxative dependent after taking 2-3 bisacodyl tablets for the past 4-ish months. Magnesium oxide is somewhat effective. MiraLAX is useless. I am trying to determine whether my current motility issues are a result of laxative dependence or organically slow motility.

Does anyone have a pro-kinetic they like that doesn’t utilize 5HTP?

I’m looking for a motility agent that actually does something besides cause bloating but doesn’t use 5HTP? I’m on a non-SSRI anxiety medication but don’t want to risk the interaction and potential serotonin syndrome?

Has anyone successfully reversed their dyssynergia?

I’ve had this since October and just did my first balloon training session. I couldn’t expel at 10ml or at 50 and am feeling really discouraged.

If I don’t want to do the endoscopy, and can’t do the breath test because I can’t take a week off of laxatives because I will literally not poop at all, are there any other ways to get diagnosed with and treated for methane SIBO?
