EX60 - Canada

My dealer advises that I am looking at late January to late February for delivery in Ottawa. I’ll take that with a grain of salt, given the delays that everyone is speaking about. But it does seem that a run of Canadian spec units will be heading this way in the new year.

I took another test drive earlier this week and felt just as happy with the car as I was in early September. It’s a really nice piece of machinery.

Edit: I was told by the dealer today that October 15 will be my deadline for confirming any factory build parameters (i.e. trim, colour, upholstery, factory options). I’m going with the Plus, no more options other than mudflaps (I can’t believe that they are not standard - I remember having to add them on for my XC60 back in 2013).

Ottawa, Canada - EX60 test drive

**Sorry for the repost as I lost access to another account and would like to respond to comments.

Our local dealer just received their demo car last week, and I was lucky enough to be one of the first to take it for a test drive. I had done a *lot* of reading, but seeing the car in person is very different from looking at photos or watching videos. I'm not really a "car guy", but I appreciate well-made things. This car seems to be exceptionally well-made.

Having a lot of the functions relegated to the touchscreen will certainly require some adjustment. It is not a deal breaker. The centre display is beautiful and clear. The driver's display is very subtle but tells you what you need to know.

Squircle steering wheel feels fine. The shark fin door handles are weird but function nicely. Nothing made me cringe or turned me off.

This car is eerily quiet, even on rough roads through construction sites. The acceleration is, of course, crazy quick.

The interior suits me quite well - impressed with the adjustments that are possible to the seats and the fact that rear seat passengers get to recline a bit. The electrochromatic roof is interesting but I don't think I would pay for it as an option on the Plus. The frosting probably wouldn't cut out a lot of the heat on a hot day, so I would order the sun shade (part of the protection plus package but also sold separately).

I want a trailer hitch but the factory hitch is overkill and (I believe) only has a ball and not a receiver that you can put a bike rack on. I will likely wait until an aftermarket hitch kit becomes available. Same with the roof rack, as the factory rack isn't wide enough for the odd time that I carry wide sports gear on top. Thule will come out with a foot pack if they haven't already.

EDIT: Apparently the North American variants will have a 2" receiver, similar to that on the EX90. However, the depth of the receiver is quite short and so might not be compatible with some accessories.

It's much more car than I need, but I am 65 and want to enjoy an EV while I am still able to drive. I ended up making a refundable deposit. As of today (September 8), they are looking at February or March delivery. My 2014 XC60 T6 will certainly get me through the next six or eight months! I've gone for the Plus, as there is already more than enough on that trim level to make me very happy.
