Does "p" mean something here other than pull-off?
Because you can't pull off from a lower fret to a higher one. And he's got it written like that all over the song, so it's not an error.

I thought it might mean like a legato hammer-on, and that sort of works until he gets to where it looks like he's doing a short bend.
