This is my current set up:

Old laptop running plex server.
This laptop is located in my bedroom. I live with my folks and don't want to encroach on their space so I'd prefer to keep it in my room. The laptop itself is silent and I sleep peacefully with it in the same room.
Both storage drives on the laptop are close to full so I need to scale my storage capacity soon. I have spare 3.5" HDDs so it would be ideal if I can use them.
I am not looking to implement RAID at all. I have cold storage backups of my movies/TV shows I've been adding to as needed.

I ordered a cenmate DAS to try plugging the spare HDDs into but it's just loud enough to where I don't like it. I like the idea of using a DAS since I can just add more storage to my already working set up. I just need something that is quiet enough to live in the same room as me.

I was looking into a Terramaster D4-320 earlier but ran into a forum of people saying it can potentially fry hard drives. Does anyone who has used a DAS in their storage set up have any recommendations on a quiet DAS?
