How can I illustrate my book?

I recently wrote a children's book and I have several hand drawn illustrations to go with it. The problem is I don't know how to format it. I can't put the illustrations into the Word document with the words because they're PDFS. I tried to look up how to put PDFs into Word but it says 'find insert>object" and I can't figure that out either. I tried GIMP but I can't seem to figure that out either.

I don't mind paying for someone else to format my book for me since I have the words and illustrations any and all advice appreciated thanks

I recently got a leopard gecko 'Leonidas' from someone who had a bunch of reptiles and had to get rid of him. I've had reptiles before such as ball pythons, bearded dragons, king snakes, and monitors, so I took him in but I now have questions.

Does he still eat when shedding? when my python was shedding I tried to avoid feeding and handling him but Leonidas seemed hungry, coming out of his cave excitedly every time I would walk by his tank, like he was expecting food.

How is their eyesight? the person I got him from didn't say anything about his eyesight but it doesn't seem to be great. When I put a mealworm down for him to catch he tries several times but can't do it himself, and when I use tongs to feed it still takes him a couple tries.

Any help is appreciated!
