Interested in CHP, looking for general advice
Hey everyone,
I’m 20 and going into my sophomore year of college studying Communications. I’m interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement, specifically with CHP, and I wanted to ask for any general tips or advice from people who have gone through the process or know what CHP looks for in applicants.
For some background, I spent about two years in a fire explorer program. During that time, I passed an explorer academy and completed two task books. One allowed me to start doing ride-alongs early in the program, and the other was supposed to take about a year, but I finished it in a few months and earned my badge.
I also want to be upfront that I smoked weed during my freshman year of college. I plan to stop completely now as I’m going into my sophomore year because I’m serious about pursuing this career and want to make sure I’m making the right choices moving forward.
I’d very much appreciate any advice on how to prepare, what to focus on in college, how to make myself a stronger applicant, and anything I should know about the CHP hiring process or academy.
