Should I buy this 2015 B8.5 S4? "Unicorn" spec & flawless maintenance, but 15.5k+ in Carfax damage. Dealer wants 14k USD OTD.
I’ve been a BMW guy my entire life. I'm currently driving an E84 with the N20, but I’m looking to transition into something a bit sportier with a solid inline-six or V6.
I found a local seller here selling a bone-stock 2015 Audi S4 Premium for $14,000 USD.
To be honest, I don't know a ton about Audi platforms, so I really need a sanity check on this one.
On paper, the spec is exactly what I want. It has the Sport Diff, Bang & Olufsen sound, and the Shadowline package. It is a single-owner car with 108k miles on it. Test drive went great pulled hard
The service history actually looks incredible. It has 29 records, all done at the local Audi dealership.
They have already taken care of the big B8.5 headaches: the electronic steering motor and rack were replaced at 50k miles,
the DSG transmission was flushed at 84k miles, and they did the intake manifold gaskets at 85k miles.
But then I saw the Carfax. It has three separate damage claims totaling over $15.5 USD:
June 2025: $7100 Collision claim
April 2022: $4788 "Other Damage" claim
Jan 2026: $3700 "Miscellaneous" claim (happened right before it was traded in)
It also has a value cover gasket leak on the inspection, he quoted about 600 for a fix
I have no idea how robust these B8.5 chassis are or how badly this kind of damage history destroys their resale value.
Is the flawless mechanical history enough to risk buying a chassis that has been hit this hard?
The seller is pricing this like it is a clean-title collector car just because it has the sport diff. would I be insulting them by offering &10k to $11k OTD? Or should I just keep my distance and stick to looking for an N55 or B58 car?
Appreciate any advice you guys have.
Edit* wrote head gasket not valve cover gasket
