Weird noise 2015 A4
I showed my mechanic the video and he thinks the transmission. Do any of you guys have any clue? Thank you so much

I’ve been a BMW guy my entire life. I'm currently driving an E84 with the N20, but I’m looking to transition into something a bit sportier with a solid inline-six or V6.
I found a local seller here selling a bone-stock 2015 Audi S4 Premium for $14,000 USD.
To be honest, I don't know a ton about Audi platforms, so I really need a sanity check on this one.
On paper, the spec is exactly what I want. It has the Sport Diff, Bang & Olufsen sound, and the Shadowline package. It is a single-owner car with 108k miles on it. Test drive went great pulled hard
The service history actually looks incredible. It has 29 records, all done at the local Audi dealership.
They have already taken care of the big B8.5 headaches: the electronic steering motor and rack were replaced at 50k miles,
the DSG transmission was flushed at 84k miles, and they did the intake manifold gaskets at 85k miles.
But then I saw the Carfax. It has three separate damage claims totaling over $15.5 USD:
June 2025: $7100 Collision claim
April 2022: $4788 "Other Damage" claim
Jan 2026: $3700 "Miscellaneous" claim (happened right before it was traded in)
It also has a value cover gasket leak on the inspection, he quoted about 600 for a fix
I have no idea how robust these B8.5 chassis are or how badly this kind of damage history destroys their resale value.
Is the flawless mechanical history enough to risk buying a chassis that has been hit this hard?
The seller is pricing this like it is a clean-title collector car just because it has the sport diff. would I be insulting them by offering &10k to $11k OTD? Or should I just keep my distance and stick to looking for an N55 or B58 car?
Appreciate any advice you guys have.
Edit* wrote head gasket not valve cover gasket
Hey everyone,
Audi S4 B8 CAKA, the car is throwing P2006 and P2007 codes. So far, a lot of parts related to this have been replaced, but the problem is still there. The car is on the stock tune, not chipped or modified in any way, everything is completely stock.
So far, the following has been replaced:
- Vacuum pump
- Both solenoids responsible for opening the runner flaps
- Intake manifolds complete with position sensors
Additionally, we did the following:
- Checked all vacuum lines (they hold vacuum perfectly)
- Checked the wiring harness going to the flaps
The problem remains exactly the same, and the fault codes trigger for both banks at the exact same time. The error always pops up at low RPMs (1500-2500 RPM).
Additional note: My car does not have a vacuum-actuated water pump. The water pump is fully mechanical without any vacuum lines.
I am completely out of ideas on what to look at next. Does anyone have any suggestions?
noticed a high coolant loss, decided to investigate
Found about 1-2l of coolant/oil mix under and around the pcv
I went to do the Berryman B12 piston ring soak job on my 6 speed Manual B8S4 and got to the place where I needed to turn the crank to DTC for each set of cylinders to dump the B12 in. I knew there was a special crankcase socket tool and acquired it ahead of time but I couldn’t get my tools or hands through the top so I took off the bottom cover and still couldn’t gain enough access. I thought dreadfully of having to pull the bumper cover and put it into service mode and came up with a thought.
I jacked up the driver side wheel so it was off the ground, with the plugs pulled, I put the car in 6th gear and placed a dowel into one of the cylinders for a gauge and turned my wheel forward as the car would drive forward and I watched the dowel go up and down! You can find DTC using this method of jacking the driver side wheel and spinning the front driver wheel carefully. I was also able to spin the wheel enough to follow the procedure of the ring soak cleaning out the cylinders in order by just moving the dowel to the other cylinders and see when it hit the apex.
Next time you need to manipulate the crank position and you have a manual, see if this helps! Saved me my knuckles and time instead of putting it into service position on the 100 degree day outside. She’s all back up and running after the job so I must have not screwed he up to badly!
Is this common knowledge I just seemed to have over looked in the online directions or is everyone sporting automatics?
Just got a 2018 Audi s4 about 80k miles I need some tips on what I should do to it. Yes I know it need tint so before u say that let me clarify I want tips about engine mods and tunes so it can be a lil faster on a budget and not kill my engine.
Have a b9 s5. Car has been driving fine then yesterday it wasn’t building power when driving. It makes this higher pitch noise when accelerating, it revs fine. No engine light.
Took it to the shop and they said this part is leaking… anyone know what this part is called or what else it could be?
Hi, looking to see what route i should go to refinish my wheels, got quoted 800 to powder coat them in a chrome finish, the 2nd photo is just a satin silver that i could spray myself, 3rd photo is how they are now
got my lugbolts stolen, noticed when the car started wobbling like fucking crazy, i bought new lugbolts and screwed them in and now i hear a tuk tuk tuk sound coming from there at low speeds, goes away during pulls and braking, any fixes? diagnosis?
Bought a b8 s4 some 2 weeks ago, the push key was fun for the first couple drives. Got old fast wanting to install a button start, what do I need to get it done? And is it worth doing?
Been eyeing down a few S4s and finally decided it was time to join the club! 2019 Daytona gray S4
Also if anyone located in the bay area would like do a shoot, feel free to send a message!
Hello all,
TLDR: buzzing noise from Coil pack #4. Pls send help.
I recently inherited a B8 S4 and I'm working through a number of issues. Just finished replacing the alternator, the vacuum pump, and the associated belts and tensioners. I will also be replacing all the control arms and a wheel bearing next week.
I come to you today as after starting it back up with the new alternator I notices this strange buzzing sound that to my ear sounds like its coming from coil pack 4 (front drivers side). Now I did just replace the vacuum pump, but to me it sounds electrical not mechanical or air, and it is distinctly from the area of that coil pack.
So far there are no codes popping up, but I haven't driven it around yet as I was planning to tackle the suspension issues before taking it for a spin.
Anyone seen this before or had a similar issue?
Edit:
I did find this post from 2 yrs ago, but not much of a response. https://www.reddit.com/r/AudiS4/s/9YB0O2UAvW
I know there’s so many videos on here like this but I have had the car for a little over 2 years and recently I’ve noticed a new ticking sound on the drivers side of the engine. I know these cars have loud engines to begin with but I do not recall hearing this ticking sound before. Does anyone have any idea of what it could be so I know what I’m getting myself into?
Hello just recently bought this audi B9 first audi I've ever own after driving it for a bit I wanted to check the engine and it's pretty loud just wanted to make sure everything was okay thank you in advance
Like many here, the DRC dampers in my recently purchased RS4 were complete toast. After a ridiculous quote from the main dealer and lots of research on coilover kits, I ended using CRS Performance (UK) who supply and fit Koni active dampers that they’ve adjusted for the B8 S4/RS4/RS5s etc (they also do the same kit for B7s)
I specifically wanted to keep stock ride height, so just opted for the Koni shocks with stock springs.
Made a massive difference and is actually still usable as a daily dog wagon.
Would recommend if you’re UK based as they are a very knowledgeable bunch who live and breathe these cars.
Hello, I just got my B 9.5 S4 prestige I’ve been wanting for some time and I just had a couple of questions regarding some things I’ve noticed.
FYI I never got an original sticker for the car as it was an import from Canada and I’m in the U.S.
Firstly. The myAudi app shows that I have the sport differential which obviously comes with the S Sport package but usually you’d be able to know if you had it by going on the drive mode individual settings but I don’t see it on my Audi. I read that it’s like an automatic thing now on Dynamic. Like it just does it and no need to adjust. So I’m wondering if that’s true
Secondly. I have the matrix headlights but it says they were disabled on the app and again I read it was to comply with US regulations or soemthign. So wondering if there is any way I can reverse it or idk
And thirdly. I have a myAudi account and It’s not letting me log into the MMI. I emailed about making me the Key User but even that didn’t help. Not sure if there is some other fixes? It just keep saying an error occurred and to try again later when I enter my credentials
Thank you and sorry for the long writing.
I have a 2019 Audi S4 that I have owned since about 15k miles, now at 77k.
I will be keeping the car long term and wanted to hear experience from others on stage 1 tunes. Likely would go with APR or 034 as I have heard good things about both.
For those of you who have done a stage 1 tune on your S4, what has your experience been with the value for money factor, as well as the reliability?
Bought it today and I am more in love than I could've predicted 🤩
