Tech’s Baseball Season Ended Yesterday. What a Sad Season. What is the Problem and What’s Next?

Got run ruled by BYU 18-8 in the first game of the Big 12 tournament. We finished 12th out of 14 teams in the conference standings.

This program has fallen off a cliff. We went from making the 2014, 16, 18, and 19 College World Series and playoff appearances every year between 2016-2023 to now being uncompetitive ever since.

Why have we became so bad?? I always looked forward to the regionals, supers, and CWS every year but not anymore. At least Softball is having success and I’ll be watching them

If You Could Adjust Your Team’s Football Stadium Capacity What Would You Make It?

Current capacity of each stadium

1 BYU 62,073

2 Iowa St 61,500

3 Texas Tech 60,229

4 West Virginia 60,000

5 Arizona St 53,599

6 Oklahoma St 52,202

7 Utah 51,444

8 Arizona 50,782

9 Colorado 50,183

10 Kansas St 50,000

11 TCU 47,000

11 Kansas 47,000*

13 Baylor 45,140

14 UCF 44,206

15 Houston 40,000

16 Cincinnati 38,193

Teams that are just right in my opinion: Iowa State, West Virginia, Arizona, Colorado, TCU, Kansas, Baylor, Houston

I would make the following adjustments: BYU increase to 70,000. Texas Tech increase to 65,000. Arizona State, Oklahoma State, and Utah increase to 60,000. Kansas State and UCF increase to 55,000. Cincinnati increase to 45,000.

The asterisk next to Kansas is due to ongoing renovations. Last season the capacity was 41,525 and this year it will be down to around 30,000. Renovations will be completed in 2027.

When the news broke out some people in this sub were saying he’d be fine and not to panic. It really isn’t looking like that way. Any chance he plays for us this upcoming season? What’s going to happen to the money we have paid him so far? Obviously it’s not even summer yet but makes you wonder for sure

With the NFL Draft starting tonight here are my personal grades of the NFL careers of our former players going back to the years since Kingsbury was our Head Coach.

Curious what everyone else thinks of the grades and if anyone knows the stories on why some of these players careers did not pan out well?

A Grade

QB Patrick Mahomes. 2017 1st round

LB Jordyn Brooks. 2020 1st round

DE Broderick Washington. 2020 5th round

B Grade

WR Jakeem Grant. 2016 6th round

S Dadrion Taylor-Demerson. 2024 4th round

C Grade

OT Le’Raven Clark. 2016 3rd round

RB DeAndre Washington. 2016 5th round

D Grade

LB Dakota Allen. 2019 7th round

OG Jack Anderson. 2021 7th round

DE Tyree Wilson. 2023 1st round

F Grade

TE Jace Amaro. 2014 2nd round

LB Will Smith. 2014 7th round

WR Keke Coutee. 2018 4th round

WR Dylan Cantrell. 2018 6th round

CB Zech McPhearson. 2021 4th round

WR Erik Ezukanma. 2022 4th round

C Dawson Deaton. 2022 7th round

To Be Determined for: Myles Cole, Caleb Rogers, Tahj Brooks

UDFAs that exceeded expectations

OT Terence Steele. (current multi year starter with the Cowboys)

LB Sam Eguavoen. (played 6 seasons in NFL after 3 seasons in Canadian League)

DE Kerry Hyder. (bounced around teams but made it 10 seasons)

DE Branden Jackson. (had career ending injury sadly after 5 seasons)

WR Cameron Batson. (had a good career going until he was arrested on 5 criminal charges)

P Austin McNamara (current starter for the Jets)

S Tyler Owens (entering his third season with the Commanders)

UDFAs that had potential but what went wrong?

WR Antoine Wesley. (declared after his junior season for the draft. Don't know why as he went undrafted. Had a very small amount of playing time with the Cardinals 2021-22)

WR TJ Vasher. (freak athlete and did bulk up 30 pounds after college but heard he didn't have a good head on his shoulders)

LB Colin Schooler. (Tackling machine with over 300 solo tackles in his college career. Had the insane tackle on the Baylor QB that saved the game. Did he even get a NFL chance?)

K Jonathan Garibay. (had the 62 yard game winner kick against ISU. Heard he did poorly in Cowboys training camp when he had his chance at the job)

These reasons all correct?

Others with slightly less potential but still what happened? Pete Robertson, Micah Awe, Jah'Shawn Johnson, Damarcus Fields, Derrick Willies, SaRodorick Thompson. Anyone else?

Here are how the projections look:

OLB David Bailey Round 1 (Top 5 Overall)

LB Jacob Rodriguez Round 2

DT Lee Hunter Round 2

OLB Romello Height Round 3-4

WR Reggie Virgil Round 4-6

DT Skyler Gill-Howard Round 5-6

WR Caleb Douglas Round 5-7

That’s 7 players that all should be selected. A few more that will at least get signed as an undrafted free agent include:

S Cole Wisniewski Round 7-UDFA

QB Behren Morton UDFA

LB Bryce Ramirez UDFA
