FSU vs UW Madison
Where should I go to College! FSU or UW Madison?
I was recently admitted to FSU off of the waitlist and was given 48 hours to decide.
I’m from Wisconsin and already committed to UW Madison for next fall.
FSU was my dream school before I got waitlisted.
But now going to Wisconsin seems like a great idea and I have everything set for next year.
Both schools are the same exact price.
I’m hoping to Major in Finance and/or Accounting
University of Wisconsin–Madison
Pros
Feels like “home”
Massive alumni network, especially in Wisconsin/Chicago but also world wide
Strong overall reputation nationally
Classic Big Ten college experience
Incredible social life, sports, traditions, and school spirit
I really like Madison
Easier travel/home logistics
Great outcomes if I get into the business school
I already have a roommate and dorm set up for next year
Cons
No direct admission to the Wisconsin School of Business
Need to apply later internally and only 1 chance
Freshman-year pressure to maintain strong grades
Its frustrating watching direct admits get ahead, and I tried to appeal and they said no to direct admission
Risk that you don’t get into business later
Very liberal and I have more Christian and conservative values
Cold and I’ve always dreamed of going somewhere warm like Florida.
I get bad seasonal depression in the winter
Florida State University
Pros
Direct admission into Finance already secured
No stress about internal transfer into business
Warm weather, palm trees, sunshine
New environment/adventure
Strong social scene and school spirit
Strong placement in Florida/Southeast
Would helps me grow independently
I loved the campus when I visited
More Conservative there
Cons
I may not be able to get on campus housing freshman year.
I don’t have a roommate and know absolutely no one going, so I may feel lonely for a bit
Far from home
I haven’t spent much time there
I may have romanticized it a bit
Less prestigious and connected nationally
Harder travel logistics
Could feel isolating at first being far away
I didn’t really love the surrounding area around Tallahassee just campus
