Writing First year exams 101

ok so hi, so many of you keep asking about how to write your first ever professional exams. so here's my 2 cents as a senior. (open to more questions & details this is just off the top of my head)

ANATOMY: diagrams. diagrams. diagrams.

VS has easily reproducible line diagrams that you can include in any long/short answer.

use the colour coded system:

Artery - Red

Veins - Blue

Nerve - Yellow with graphite outline

fascia/ligaments/capsules - Green

lymph organs/systems - Purple

bone - Black

subcutaneous fat - yellow

glands - orange

(p.s. i used to have that 10 colour small pack of Camlin pencils, it's easy to grab & works fine)

and for histology, draw the right diagram & explain side by side

- neuroanat ~ flowcharts & diagrams of the tracts

- embryology ~ highlight the timeline & again, diagrams if possible

if you have the right diagrams you needn't even write a seperate theory explanation, explaining side by side or as flowcharts is more than enough for a good score.

PHYSIOLOGY:

if anatomy is diagrams, physio is flowcharts!

flowcharts and line explanations for everything will get you an amazing score.

if they want a full essay/short note, divide the topic and write in short and clear points, don't use filler words.

BIOCHEMISTRY:

question is specific. your answer also must be specific.

answer what you know in a clear manner. organise your answers, think out and plan before you write. don't start from a random point . start with intro, and proceed with your points.

BULLETIN POINTS. not paragraphs. i assure you no prof will sit and read through to dig around for a key word.

keywords, enzymes, and reactions must be clear and underline them if possible.

Some general advice:

★ specific question- answer to the point and don't beat around the bush.

★Vague topics/big topics - make subheadings and underline the subheadings *after* you finish the paper.

★ neat presentation matters. draw the margin for atleast the first couple sheets.

★LABEL the diagrams you draw.

★plan out your answers, take 10 mins and decide what ur gonna write for each question. then start. seems time consuming at first and ull be nervous but helps you in the last minute when you're rushing to finish the paper.

open to more specific questions, but this is all I can think of rn.

All the best!!
