Moving container suggestions/post move organization

I am going to be moving about an hour and a half away in the next month or two and I know I need to start packing now. Some areas are fucked and I just feel at a loss on where and how to start.

I’m super overwhelmed with trying to figure out what to pack things in and I would love some suggestions.

I have always lived in apartments but now I’m moving from a house I have been in a while and it’s a lot of stuff. I have gotten rid of some stuff but even with that, just a normal house worth of stuff is a lot. It doesn’t help that some areas of my house need unfucked first.

I’d like to maybe use some totes that I could also use for storage later as I will have way more space to properly organize things in the new house.(I don’t have a garage and my current house so my basement is like the most chaotic utility area right now between tools and garden supplies, it’s making me so so anxious)

A few years ago I bought a couple of gasket totes and got decently organized but then they discontinued that kind and the old ones don’t line up with any other brand so I would like to find totes that I could buy more of later on that can stack with what I buy now. Any good tote brands that last? And don’t cost and arm AND a leg?

I think I’ll also need to mix in some cardboard boxes otherwise I’ll be spending $36,868 on totes and I won’t need as many totes when I unpack later. A friend suggested I go to a local wine place because the ones with the dividers will be good for vases and my lava lamps etc.

Costco boxes aren’t good for moving but I don’t want to buy a bunch of new ones at a hardware store if I can avoid it, any good secret places to get decent boxes free or cheap?

What goes good in a box versus a tote?

And how do you pack a a bunch of canvas and picture frames?

Lastly, there are some areas in my house that are just not organized. There isn’t garbage intermingled with stuff, it’s just shit organization-like my hardware or area is just shelves crammed with tools and zero logic to what’s where.

I can’t decide whether or not I should figure out how to unfuck that space and then pack it or just pack up that area of my house and organize it when I have moved because my new house should be 2-3x this itty bitty teeny house I am in now.
