Been in LA for about 3 months now and I still don't have a great feel for gas station pricing/quality here, so I threw together a rough map based on vibes and word of mouth. Curious if locals think it's accurate.

Vertical axis is price (top = expensive, bottom = cheap), horizontal axis is quality (left = low, right = high). Here's roughly how I placed things:

  • Chevron, Shell, Mobil → expensive and high quality
  • Costco → cheap but high quality
  • 76, Valero, Circle K, 7-Eleven → somewhere in the middle
  • ARCO, and independents like USA Gasoline → cheap but lower quality

Does this match your experience? I'm especially unsure about ARCO — I put it as the lowest quality on the map, but I've heard it's TOP TIER certified and the reviews I've seen are actually pretty decent. Am I off base there? Also let me know if there are other chains I should add.

Just moved from Japan! 🇯🇵 I mapped LA grocery stores by Price & Culture. How accurate is this?

Hi everyone! I’m a recent transplant from Japan. I’ve been exploring local supermarkets and made this chart based on my impressions so far.

I'd love to hear from locals:

  • Does this mapping look right to you?
  • What other essential stores am I missing?

Let me know what you think!
