How long to stop lifting weights before blood tests / 24 hours urine collection?

I've neglected my examinations for almost 3 years and looking back my eGFR was about 48 back then IIRC. I had a bit of skewed up results due to lifting heavy and being active.

My previous nephrologist already retired, so I'll have to see a new one. I don't have any guidelines but I'm assuming that 72 hours of no lifting/strenuous activity before starting the 24 hour urine collection should be enough? Also during those 72 hours I'll be sure to have plenty of water and limit caffeine. The following morning after the 24 hour urine collection, I'll be doing the blood tests, which I've heard is also very important to drink enough water in advance.

Would be glad to receive any suggestions, thanks!

Best value sweetener for making chocolate milk in bulk?

Previously, I was recommended allulose, in general, it's been great, no complaints, used it for making keto chocolate/brownie fudge, ice tea/coffee. I thought I was immune to anything any stomach issues with allulose so I never even worried about the quantities.

Until I decided to make close a large batch of chocolate milk... I ended up drinking wellllll over 100grams of allulose at once. Everything was perfectly fine until it wasn't. From the moment it was bathroom time, I was basically bathroom bound for the next 3 hours. You may think you're finally done after an hour, but it's only a matter a matter of time before another 'shart' builds up in 5 minutes.

So any suggestions? I've read that monk fruit extract powder, something like 50-100grams can last for extremely long time, but precision scale/scoops are needed because it's very powerful depending on the mongroside V percentages.

Thanks.

Chronic binge (or ex-binge) eaters - do you find life on keto easier?

EDIT: Thank you so much for anyone joining this topic and sharing your stories! It's been quite interesting to read how each person handles it. It's also so nice to find other people that also have or at least similar obstacles with binge eating. It's past 2AM and I need to get some rest, I will continue replying tomorrow, thank you all!
---------------

Never once thought I'd succeed doing keto, but it's been going for almost 4 months now. I used to be a binge eater, and when I told people that knew me that I think I have a binge eating disorder, they laughed at me saying "yeah right", because I was athletic and lean looking with abs, but they didn't know behind closed doors at once a week or two I'd fall of the wagon, and what would start with an innocent small piece of cake, or a small serving of ice-cream or soon end up being a 3,000~4,000 kcal binge of crappy food of top of what I already ate that days. The thing is I always bounced back because I lifted weights and I'd go on "purges" where I'd do 30~50k steps the next days, pretty much spend all my free time walking/hiking to make up for it. Would try to maintain a healthy diet with enough protein, "healthy" carbs, adequate fats but if you're allowed to eat carbs - then what's stopping you from "just have a bite, come on! just one bite! try !" -> and next thing you know it's like the flood gates have opened and you can't stop thinking about food and your body won't rest until you're stuffed to that point you feel sick.

I used to heavily depend on volume eating, 1.3~1.5 kilogram salads of just vegetables, tons of watermelon, protein fluff that would be like 3~5 liters, protein ice creams what were over 2 liters. I was lean with visible abs but would have a pregnant looking stomach from all the volume foods, without volume eating I'd be starving.

And now on keto? Honestly can't even be bothered to touch vegetables, rarely eat them. Just eat 2-3 meals a day. Absolutely no snacking at all at all unless I really can't fall asleep, then my snacking is stuff like hard boiled eggs and pickles lol. My diet is just super simple whole foods like chicken wings, beef, fish, nuts (watching out for those net carbs accumulating tho), eggs, olive/coconut oil, sometimes I dabble in a bit of vegan proteins for fun like tofu, tempeh, barely touch dairy now just as an experiment for my skin - sometimes do just a tiny bit of butter but haven't had cheese in months. Never would I imagine I'd survive and feel satiated on calorie-dense foods without the volume eating aspect, but it's real. With carbs I could eat large bowel of oatmeal with nuts, fruits, and protein powder and easily reach 1,700 calories and I'd be hungry an hour or two later. Now if I eat say 1,000 calories of calorie-dense protein/fat food, I might feel like I can eat 5,000 calories while eating if I don't take a break, but if I wait for 20~30 mins, and I'm satiated easily for 4~8 hours.

Please please please help me on which check ups to ask for?

Male, 41, have had this for like half a decade. Neck/traps are always quite sore and and neck has sensitive points which cause shooting pain at certain angles. Always have have headaches, brain fog, just feels like there's a clog-up or the brain isn't getting enough oxygen lol. I did so far an MRI for the head which everything was normal, the neurologist was just worried it could be aneurysm.

I used to lift weights regularly and exercise very regularly, it was probably the only thing that made me look forward the next day as I didn't have many hobbies in the past. I would also train neck/traps quite often. Maybe over the years I caused some damage? Because later I reached a point where just about any strength training even with very light weights would end up causing me headaches and it always felt like they were originating from the neck. Also certain pillows or sleeping position would have me waking up with debilitating headaches. I now pretty much just sleep on the floor (lower back feels better that way) and a very thin pillow and I try to almost always sleep only on my back but I can't help turning to sides sometimes.

I'm just wondering, what do I need to ask the docs for, an MRI for the neck? What else? Much appreciated to anyone whom could help. Thanks.

Any reason not to use alluluse?

Update: Thank you so much to everyone that contributed here! My mind is now at ease, no more concerns :) I'll be attempting my first ever keto chocolate later today.

Update 2: Absolutely no tummy issues with alluluse so far. And keto chocolate so damn filling because of all that butter. The downside is my first ever keto chocolate was not good at all, next time I'll follow a receipe precisely. If you've got any please share them!

Update 3: Evidently I'm dyslexic that can't spell ALLULOSE, forgive me.

Hi everyone, been on keto for about 3 months. So far been pretty good. Haven't used any sweeteners at all, just eating whole foods. And only had a handful of diet sodas.

I'd like for the fun of it try and make some keto chocolate, which mainly calls for 3 ingredients: cocoa butter, cocoa powder (planning to use Dutch-processed) and alluluse powder.

Only reason I'm a little concerned is because due to keto my cleared up, cystic acne is gone, blood pressure is very good and no more hunger pangs.

Any change using alluluse will bring back hunger pangs or somehow spike blood sugar in some way? Because if so I'd rather some skip it. I wanted to make it anyway just for the sake of making some actual keto food and hopefully that it will taste good enough that the rest of my family could also enjoy.

Thanks.

Edit: I will be using 200g cocoa butter, 200g Alluluse powder, and 70g Dutch-processed cocoa powder. Those should pretty much be the main ingredients, keeping it simple.

Ibanez SR500A/SR500N vs Yamaha TRBX 504 for a beginner?

Hi everyone!

So I'm having a hard time trying to find "the one", my own first bass guitar that will be quite good. A bit of a background: Been playing electric guitar for ~1.5years, and I think in that time I learnt a whole lot more about modding/soldering/tech/repair work than actually progressing my playing LOL.

Regarding bass playing experience, my brother's wife lent me hear unused 20 year old cheap 2V1T J-bass, it plays not too bad but has a relatively chunky neck. But the absolute worst is has a really bad ski ramp especially from the 17th to 24th fret, fret leveling will probably cause the last frets to look like pancakes lol, and removing the 13th ~ 24th frets, sanding down the fretboard and refretting is way too much work for a beat up old bass that was bought 2nd hand 20 years ago.

So I'm looking at my options:
TRBX 504: Seems to have tons of positive reviews and quite versatile. I tried it in the store and loved the neck (38mm wide at nut, 1st fret 19.5mm, 12th fret 21.5mm). I didn't bother messing too much with the controls, just mostly get a feel for playability. I also tried the cheaper TRBX 174 model, I wanted to love it but the neck on the 504 was much more to my liking (the 174 has a wider and chunkier neck).

Ibanez models: Unfortunately no store in this country carries them. I'm gonna have to buy them blindly from Thomann. To my eyes the SR500N is just pure sexyness, absolutely love how it looks in pictures I've seen, it seems that the bridge has string spacing adjustment which is nice to have, and also it seems that on that specific bridge it's very easy to remove the strings - which to me is nice if I wanna play in like drop C and maybe only replace the 2 lower strings. On paper, the neck width and thickness seems exactly same as Ibanez, but of course the neck profile also matters. Minor disadvantage is the truss rod access is on the headstock. This guitar doesn't have a passive/active switch like the TRBX 504, but it has a mid frequency switch - not sure if it's a good to have or only complicating things for a beginner tho lol.
Between the 500A and 500N the difference is only pickups AFAIK? If that's the case then I'm not too worried about I'll pick which one between them later.

Alternative options: Yamaha TRBX 304, or any of the other models which are cheaper than 500A. Sire V7/V8 but please don't get mad at me but the large stock and those block inlays aren't to my taste although I'm aware that they're very solid instruments - still giving them a consideration.

Thanks in advance!

Has anyone quit coffee solely for PKD?

My nephrologist wants me to only have 1 cup of coffee a day or maybe not even that. I'm active, I lift weights, exercise, I've tried no caffeine for a full month and it felt like the lights were dim in my head. Honestly I'm envious of people that don't consume caffeine or drink coffee.

Edit: Holy ... this is the most replies I've ever gotten! Thank you to anyone contributing on this topic. And I know this is a "sensitive" topic so thank you also for some of the funny replies here. I've seen some mention quitting caffeine helped lower their BP, just wanted to share my anecdotal that now that I'm experimenting with doing keto for the past few months my blood pressure is always good/very good despite of coffee/being active, where as previously on moderate to high carbs, once I started missing my walks or got a bit lazy the BP would get high-ish (despite being on candesartan 8mg).

Is using a mouse to click in Foothall Mania considered something?

I just started playing this game, was honestly kinda fun trying to score, but this phone's touch screen touch responsiveness isn't that great, so I decided why not connect the PC mouse to phone, made it easier to click on the shoot button. Next day I got shadow banned from that game.

Though I've seen many others here get shadow banned for no real reason.

Less than 2 months on and keto and and two major life improvements

TLDR: 1) Blood pressure went from constantly high to good/very good despite being the most in the worst fitness by my standards i.e. not lifting, running, mobility work, barely even get out the house - even many years ago when I was quite muscular and lean I never had blood pressure this low.

  1. No more new cystic acne on face - I hope? It's still early to really tell but normal every 1-3 weeks I'd get at least one new cystic pimple.

Hi everyone, this is my first attempt at keto lifestyle. I'm in my 40s and time flies by so fast that I'm not even sure if it's been 6, 7 or 8 weeks.

Before stating the improvements, I'll share some background.

Blood pressure: I have PKD (polycystic kidney disease), and just having PKD can cause over time as the kidneys grow bigger to have higher blood pressure, and higher blood pressure isn't good for the kidneys, so I'm prescribed blood pressure medicine (candesarten 8mg). A decade ago when I ran a lot and lifted weights, my BP was quite good. But past few years I been seeing 135+ / 85+ on almost every any measurement, which is not good at all, my nephrologist (kidney doctor) wants me to have around 110/70 to preserve kidney function.

Acne: Like clockwork every couple of weeks I'd get a new cystic acne on my face, that nasty and mean kind and builds into a noticeable number under your skin, it takes forever to heal and by the end of 2nd week when that nasty pimple finally exposes itself, it's just too difficult for me not to end up eventually picking at it and end up with lots of tiny scars.

So what are the improvements?

My blood pressure scared me when I saw it, because I haven't measured in a couple of months and expected to see 130+/80+, but now I sometimes get some readings around 105/65 and the highest I seen was 120/70ish. But here's the kick, I'm extremely sedentary these days, not fit at all (by my standards) compared to what I used to be, so barely even getting out of the house.

As for the acne, it's not like my skin is glowing and I look as good as I did in my 30s lol but the cystic acne (touch wood) hasn't appeared anymore which in my book is considered black magic. Because when I was eating carbs, even at my peak when I was muscular, lean and fit, I kept getting cystic acne every few weeks at the very least. I've tried stuff like no dairy, no meat, no processed sugars, but I never gave up on sctual carbs/fruits and I just couldn't put my finger on why I'd keep getting cystic acne.
