How hard is staying consistent with habit?

Hey guys! I’m just curious — is it just me, or has anyone else struggled with staying consistent?

Anytime we want to start a new habit or genuinely improve something in our lives, it feels like we can do it for a few days with the help of motivation. We’re excited, we make a plan, and we think, “This time I’m actually going to stick with it.” But then the motivation starts to fade… and somehow, we’re back at square one.

Everyone always says, “You need to be consistent.” But no one really tells us how to stay consistent when we don’t feel motivated anymore.

For people who genuinely want to build a habit but keep falling off, what usually causes you to stop? Is it losing motivation, forgetting, getting busy, making the habit too difficult, getting bored, missing a day, or something else?

What usually happens after the first few days when your motivation starts wearing off? And what happens when you miss one day? What about 3–5 days? Do you usually pick the habit back up easily, or does it become surprisingly difficult to start again?

I’d also love to hear about the apps, devices, planners, reminders, or other systems you’ve tried. What has actually worked for you? What hasn’t? Are there things you wish your current habit app or system did differently or included to make staying consistent easier?

Most importantly, what habit have you tried hardest to build but struggled to stick with? I’d especially love to hear about a specific experience. What happened when things stopped going well, and what you did afterward.

I’m genuinely trying to understand why staying consistent can be so much harder than simply knowing what we should do. Any tips, experiences, or lessons are welcome!
