My parents expect my grandmother to pay my college expenses, but she's unemployed.
Hi. The majority of my junior & senior high school was paid for by my grandmother through various side jobs & utang. My parents rarely provide for me financially, kahit 100 pesos is hirap ako makahingi sakanila. I'm currently a grade 12 ABM student going through application season (BSA prio) and ayoko nang i-place 'yung burden ng university on my lola, especially dahil isa siya sa primary caretakers of my siblings and tumatanda na. I'm already planning to apply to state universities around Manila (& scholarships sa priv univs), but I also need finances for dormitories and daily living expenses that my parents will not provide for. I can't not dorm. My residence is far from colleges, and mas mahal pa magtravel back and forth everyday kaysa mag-dorm.
I've thought of applying for financial aid scholarships, pero my parents make enough for me to not be the priority for scholarships (pero pasok pa rin sa income bracket). The real problem is the fact that scholarships need you to provide an ITR, which they don't have. And also, mataas-taas din yung bills namin na hinihingi ng scholarships. (electricity bill: ~8k). As per house checks, our house is a one-storey house that's fully furnished, so I really don't know if pasok siya for scholarships. Can I use the ITRs/houses of my relatives? Is that an option?
In terms of academic scholarships, I only rank 5th in my private high school and I don't think it'll be enough para makakuha ng full discount. I'm still aiming for valeditorian, though.
My plan din is to try and get a job pero hindi ko pa rin matansya if it'll be enough for everything, even with a scholarship.
La Salle is my dream school talaga ever since I was a kid pero I don't know how achievable that is anymore. What can I do to be able to afford college? Is there anything I haven't considered yet? Are there any (public or private) colleges that are lenient sa pagbibigay ng scholarships?
