I cannot go to UP, will I fail in life?

I cannot go to UP due to location and all of the "smart kids" (i am the same level as them) are. Should I be worried?

They are taking the UPCAT, every single one of the smart people.

They are hoping for a scholarship and I was supposed to take it too if only I live near there. 50 percent of my entire class are taking the UPCAT except me. Now, it's too late for me to be in UP, fate is sealed.

My parents keeps telling me "you don't need to go to UP" but then at the same time the intelligent guys say "you're parents advice is outdated, its UP or nothing."

Those that are not thinking about which college they're going, only god knows where they're head at in the future. They don't even show up in class that much, no study habits, low grades every single time, just straight up stupid people set as a great example of who I do not want to become when I grow up.

I am genuinely concerned about myself, I can't go to UP with those smart UPCAT takers.

By the looks of it, they will succeed in life and I will be forgotten.

This is making me think that I don't deserve to live, please help.

Tourism or nursing degree for myself?

Problem/Goal:

Hindi ko alam... kung nursing ba or tourism

Naguguluhan ako, hindi ko alam saan path dapat kong tahakin. I am currently a bpo employee, college undergrad girly who is looking on ways to pursue college.

.

Context:

Nursing dream ko talaga ksi want ko maging doctor someday. Kaso sobrang bigat nia as a working girly huhu. Ni wala akong mahanap na school na nagooffer ng nursing na online lahat onsite.

Tourism dream ko maging model at flight attendant. Naisip ko ipursue to kasi naisip ko pwede naman ako mag nursing when im old or kung may pera pursue pagiging doctor kasi pwede magdoctor despite any college degree. Isa pa ang pag momodel ay sa bata lng naman usually. So its now ir never. Pero may mga nagsasabi din na kahit anong course sa fa.

I am 22 by the way. Magcocollege plang ako ulit. Please need your context.

Previous Attempts:

Nagginquire na ako and sabi nila mabigat daw ang nursing kung working ka. Hindi ko naman alam ano fall back ko na work if hindi ako maging fa.

hindi ko na alam anong gagawin ko.

nababaliw na ako kung anong gagawin ko sa college life ko. so nakapasa ako sa ust—which is my dream school in my dream program—but the problem is wala kaming budget ng pamilya ko to secure my slot. 10k is a big deal to us at hindi ko alam anong gagawin namin. sinasabi ng magulang ko to let go pero ayaw ko dahil big 4 na yun eh. in the other side, i applied and took exam sa mga state u. sa up, hindi ako pinalad at ang pup na lang ang huling alas ko. kabado ako at not confidence since marami akong kaagaw for slot. let is che talaga, ayaw ko na maging hampaslupa!

I have no passion and interests

I would like help in deciding my college course I'm an upcoming grade 11 student yet I still don't know what course to take from college. I want a college courses that makes money tho that's all i know. Im quite smart and I think i can get highest honor if I apply myself this school year. I'm leaning towards accountancy but the UP Accountancy is brutal and i have no doubt there will be lots of other people applying there smarter than me and my family is quite poor. What course should I take instead?

Should I study UPD Econ or ADMU Legma?

Basically, what the title says.

Economics in itself is already difficult. I'm worried that when I study in UPD, I won't be able to deal with the pressure, kasi nga it's a high-stress environment, and takot din ako ma-delay. Regardless, UPD is my dream school, and economics is my dream course.

Sa ADMU naman, sabi nila na mas asikaso yung mga students and forgiving yung admin. BS Legma is a versatile course, kasi nga 50/50 law and business sa Ateneo. I wouldn't mind studying it since second choice course ko siya.

Just want to ask what course is the best choice considering future prospects?

PLM Emed vs UPD Electronics Engineering dillema

Hi everyone. I recently got reconsidered for PLM EMED, and now I’m having a really hard time deciding between that and UP Diliman Electronics Engineering.

For context, I know these are two very different paths. PLM EMED gives me a more direct route toward medicine, while EEE in UPD opens opportunities in engineering/tech and possibly shifting paths later on. I’m interested in both fields, which honestly makes the decision even harder.

Some things I’ve been thinking about:

  • long-term career opportunities
  • workload and student life
  • financial practicality
  • flexibility if I change my mind in the future
  • overall environment and growth

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who are currently in either program or considered these choices before. What made you choose your path, and do you regret it or not?

Thank you so much.

about the "big 4 privilege"

As someone who passed sa isang provincial school ng La Salle but also passed UST sa Manila.

I've been reading a lot about the advantage of big 4 fresh graduates regarding employment sa first jobs nila. Curious lang, but does it also maybe extend to these "provincial" schools like UPLB, DLSL, ADNU?

BS Econ or appeal for IE/Stat/Math?

‎Hi! So luckily, I was able to get a slot in UPD for BS Economics, which was my first choice. Kaso right now, I'm having second thoughts kasi napansin kong medyo limited ang major scholarship options for BS Econ. Wala siya sa priority courses ng DOST, and hindi rin siya pasok sa CHED Bagong Pilipinas Merit Scholarship. Because of this, I'm thinking of doing a qualifiers appeal sana to shift to BS Industrial Engineering, BS Statistics, or BS Math, assuming may available slots pa. ‎

‎To give you some context, my ultimate goal after graduation is to work sa finance field and earn a lot right away. I really want to help my mom retire from her work as soon as possible, kaya practical opportunities talaga ang priority ko. Given my options, which of these courses would give me the best career leverage and high-paying entry-level roles? Saan ba ko mas madaling yayaman or like makakakuha ng high-paying corporate or finance jobs pagka-graduate? ‎

‎Super torn ako if I should stick with Econ despite the lack of scholarships, or if I should take the risk and appeal for IE, Stat, or Math. Would appreciate any advice, career insights, or experiences from seniors from these programs. Thank you so much!

Totoo ba that getting into the Big 4 matters for your future careers?

Eto ang palagi sinasabi saakin ng family ko, and I feel extremely pressured to get into the Big 4 (UP, UST, ADMU, DLSU) Because it feels like my future is also at stake on what university I'll be attending in the future.

Siguro hindi ko talaga tatanggapin if hindi ako nakapasok sa Big 4's. Baka sumama nalang ako kay mother sa US at dun nalang mag-aral hahahahayst.

UPM NURSING OR UST MEDTECH?? (I already got a slot in both don'tworry)

Hi po everyone! Weird post I know but I really need honest advice between UPM Nursing vs UST MedTech

Long-term goal is ENT / Otolaryngology abroad (preferably UK, maybe US).

UPM Nursing pros for me:

• Large research environment which helps a lot sa CV

• PGH connections/mentorship

• strong academics and focuses more on clincal/practical skills

• good networking with doctors in UP/PGH

• flexible abroad backup as a nurse (if ever)

But I’m really worried about RSA delaying my plans abroad + burnout/stress (I have a tito in UPM saying super duper pagod siya lagi, would I still have time for extra research or whatever?)

UST MedTech pros:

• Stronger foundation sa mga hard sciences

• Larger alumni network

• no RSA so agad na me makakapag-take ng mga exams abroad like PLBA/USMLE

• easier timeline for going abroad since no return service obligation

• stronger focus on laboratory diagnostics/research skills which could help in med school and clinical reasoning

But I’m scared I’d lose the UP research/network advantage. At the same time, I feel like medtech would better prep me for exam taking in the future. And ofc the RSA is a pain.

Main questions:

• Which would help more long-term for UK/US medicine?

• Is UPM’s research advantage worth the RSA? How to skip RSA?

• Can UST MedTech students still get involved in UP-PGH research?

• Which gives better backup options if going abroad gets difficult?

• Which path would you fellas choose personally?

Would appreciate insights especially from:

• UPM Nursing students/grads

• UST MedTech people

• Filipinos now working abroad

• people pursuing medicine after either course

Trying to think long-term (or baka masyadong advance lng mag-isip, ty!!)

ano ba talaga dapat passion o practicality

as someone na sobrang lost at life at hanggang ngayon ay still torn between what course to choose kahit mag cocollege na. is it better to choose passion o practicality?

recently just opened up to my parents about my desired program na gusto kong kunin kaso parang based sa reaction nila hindi sila masyadong suportado sa gusto ko, since hindi siya gaano ka practical and mababa lang din ang sweldo dito. so kinoconsider ko nalang talaga na sa tech side na ako pumunta pero natatakot talaga kasi ako na ma burn out tapos hindi ko pa mahanap ‘yung desire to continue kasi hindi ko naman gusto yung ginagawa ko. ayaw ko naman umabot sa point na kailangan ko pa mag shift

what should i do, should i risk the passion or does it get better along the way sa practicality?

Parents forcing me to enroll to another school despite passing UP.

I passed the big 4 and UPLB and I really want to go UPLB because UP na yun and andyan na yun eh but days after the reservation fee deadline ng other school, biglang di na ako pwede mag UPLB because Malayo and because it’s not even a “real” UP school and ayun. I already told them weeks before if they want me to go other schools Edi they should play the reservation fee which I already reminded them but Ngayon they are taking it back. They are emailing UST and DLSU if I can have my slot back and sobrang Nakakaiyak. just because they don’t want me to study far from them and their excuse is they don’t want me to risk a pregnancy because I have freedom away from them. they did not tell me because I might not be capable of living alone or I might get homesick but rather because I might get pregnant just like they did back in college.

bakit pa ako nagexam if sila lang din pipili as if sila yung magaaral? Ganito ba tingin Nila sakin bilang anak nila, isang p*kp*k? Andyan na yung UP my dream school my dream program and they are just throwing it away.

How can I fully give up and decline my slot in UST and DLSU so they can’t take it back no matter what? sI’m scared they might enroll behind my back.

(dvm) will it be hard for me to get a job if i am not from the big 4?

hi, i am an incoming DVM (veterinary) student to benguet state university. i recently read a subreddit post that asked if the university actually matters, and was overwhelmed with the responses because they agreed and said companies are usually finding applicants from the big 4.

i was accepted into two veterinary schools (very scarce in the philippines): de la salle araneta and benguet state university. benguet state has always been my dream but seeing that subreddit made me wonder whether i should go to de la salle instead because of the boost it will give to my resume once i find a job.

can someone tell me their experiences? i really need an eye opener. i have been so afflicted with this problem, i dont know how to wrap my head around it.

Stressing out for not passing the big 4

Hi, so i just wanna rant as i need to get this off my chest one way or another hahaha

Is it just me or is anyone also stressed for not passing the big 4??. For context i took 3 of the CET in the big 4(UPD, DLSU, UST), i failed 2 of them while i was waitlisted for DLSU, and now that its enrolment season I've been reading some reddit reviews and experiences again, and I've read some that said that some companies will discard your resume or will base the first impression depending on your university. And i understand that but i just get stressed thinking about it, i guess its because im surrounded by people who got accepted to the big 4 or talks very highly about the big 4 which is very understandable.

It just gives me anxiety thinking about what could happened in the future, all the doors that closed just cause i wasnt able to be in this university especially in a saturated field(civil engineering). I know that in the end it will still depend on my perseverance, determination, and skill. Even so, when ever the thought creeps to my head i get very distressed

Again its not like im really obsessed with the big 4 like some are. The university im 90% sure im attending if i didnt get i. DLSU is mapua which is in my opinion still a good uni, but i guess just being surrounded by those who romanticise the big 4 affected my way of thinking about the situation

This might sound stupid to some people but Again, this is just a rant as i just wanna get this off my chest and possibly hear some of your thoughts

Thank you all💝

UPM PolSci vs UST Pharmacy, help me choose!

I recently passed the UPCAT and got into my second-choice program at UPM, which is Political Science. However, my first-choice, dream program has always been Pharmacy at UST. I genuinely enjoy lab work, formulations, and the idea of becoming a pharmacist.

My dilemma is that UST enrollment is already on May 23, and if I don’t enroll by then, I’ll lose my slot. Financially, UST would also be a big challenge for my family. We’re middle class, and while my parents are willing to try, tuition is very expensive, so I would likely need scholarships to continue. At the same time, I’m also thinking long-term because medical school itself is another major expense.

What I know for sure is:

  1. I really want to pursue Pharmacy.

  2. I also want to aim for UPCM in the future.

does anyone here sells their Acad Gateway book?

Hello! I'm and UPCAT taker this yr and i think left behind na ako LOL. Don't have enough budget for a review center and allowance kapag face to face. Bought a Maroon bluebook already and i think i need more books pa. I really want to apply sa AG but money is the problem. Sa mga previous students nila, do some of you sell their book? and hoping affordable sana. Thank you :)
