which camcorder format aged the worst?

miniDV, Digital8, DVD, HDD, memory card, VHS-C...

some of these formats are still pretty easy to work with today. others feel like they were designed specifically to make future owners suffer

between dead batteries, proprietary cables, discs that won’t read, tape mechanisms and ancient software, there’s a lot that can go wrong before you even get the footage onto a computer

which format has given you the most trouble over the years?

Anyone else using the G14 for work all day and finding the little things annoying?

i've been using my G14 for work for a few weeks now, mostly notes and telehealth, and overall it does what i need.

the keyboard is probably the thing i struggle with most. when i'm typing quickly, i keep hitting the wrong keys or having to correct things, which gets old when you're doing it constantly

the screen size is actually fine for the EMR. i expected that to bother me more, but i haven't had much trouble fitting everything on screen

the trackpad is a different story. every now and then it'll register the click slightly away from where i actually pressed, usually when i'm trying to hit something in a menu.

battery life has been around four hours for me when i'm running between appointments without plugging in. that's still better than my old ThinkPad, but it's not quite enough to stop thinking about where the charger is

i’d like to hear how other G14 owners are using theirs for work. any settings or tweaks that made the keyboard, trackpad or battery experience less annoying?

What's more important: perfect color or healthy grass?

There's a lot of focus on getting that deep green lawn. But sometimes the lawn that looks the best isn't necessarily the healthiest one. Pushing fertilizer, watering constantly and trying to maintain perfect color can create a lot of extra work

Would you rather have a slightly less impressive-looking lawn that is thick, healthy and easy to maintain?

Or is getting that perfect green color part of the fun?

Omaha, NE. Is watering a heat-stressed lawn late in the afternoon actually helpful?

I'm in Omaha, NE, and this week's heat has my lawn looking pretty stressed. Brown edges, a little wilted in the sunnier spots. I normally water early in the morning, but today I got home around 4 PM and started wondering whether it's worth running the sprinklers right away or if it's better to just wait until tomorrow morning.

I've seen people say watering during the heat is pointless, while others say helping the grass through the stress matters more than the time of day. For those who've dealt with this, have you noticed any real difference in recovery between watering the same afternoon versus waiting until the next morning?

does deep watering actually change root depth, or is that just lawn care lore?

Been trying to nail down an actual answer to this and getting conflicting information everywhere. The common advice is water deeply and infrequently, which sounds logical, but I haven't found a consistent explanation for what "deeply" even means in practice. One inch per week shows up constantly, but that figure gets passed around without much context about soil type, grass variety, or whether you're dealing with clay that drains like a parking lot.

My lawn has held up reasonably well this summer without supplemental watering most weeks since we've had decent rain, but I added a zone to an existing irrigation system last fall and now I'm actually paying attention to timing. Running it early morning seems to be the consensus and that part at least makes sense to me.

What I can't find is whether frequency genuinely changes root depth over a season in a measurable way, or if most people are just repeating what they read somewhere. Anecdotally I killed a patch two summers ago by watering lightly every day and assumed it was heat. Now I think it was shallow roots just giving out when we hit a dry stretch.

Anyone have a lawn that went through a drought stress test and noticed a real difference based on how they watered earlier in the season?
