Psoriasis Remission after 25 years.

I’ve lived with diagnosed psoriasis for 25 years & am now in remission.

The scaling has dramatically reduced.
The redness is fading.
For the first time in decades, my natural skin tone is returning & I can feel my natural skin.

What’s interesting is that many of the things people usually credit for improvement haven’t changed.

I’m probably more stressed than I’ve ever been.
I exercise less.
I spend less time in the sun.
My diet is far from perfect.
I’m navigating perimenopause.
I haven’t started medication.
I haven’t had UV treatment.

The biggest change in my life was something else entirely.

I became estranged from several narcissistic family members and made a clean break from a lifetime of denial surrounding childhood trauma and abuse.

For decades I carried responsibility that wasn’t mine. I tried to fix people who didn’t want help. I confused guilt with love and obligation, and obligation with family.

Eventually I stopped & did 4 years of dedicated somatic therapy.

I’m not claiming emotional healing cures psoriasis & I am not “healed” so much as have started what will be a lifetime of healing.

In my own case, after removing myself from decades of chronic emotional stress and finally acknowledging what I’d spent most of my life minimizing, my skin began improving in ways I hadn’t experienced for 25 years.

Maybe it’s coincidence. Maybe reducing years of chronic stress changed something about how my immune system behaves.

There is growing research linking childhood trauma, chronic stress, and psoriasis. Whether that’s what happened here, I can’t say with certainty but it certainly made me think.

I’m curious whether anyone else with an autoimmune condition noticed improvement after leaving an abusive environment, becoming estranged from toxic family members, or finally processing long-term trauma.

I’m interested in hearing other people’s experiences because I’m fascinated by what happened in my own life.
