20 Gallon Long for Apistos

20 Gallon Long for Apistos

Hi all! I’ve had this 20 gal long setup running for about 2 months. I have 6 cardinals and 2 amanos in there and plan on grabbing 4-6 more cardinals. I was planning on putting a pair of apistogramma in there after it’s more established in a couple months. Is this reasonable or should I go with a single male? I have a tidal 55 on the tank and will be adding more plants and potentially another cave to add more LOS breaks. Thanks!

20 Long Opinions

Hi guys, I just finished cycling a brand new 20 gallon long. I have a tidal 55, heater, ph is 6-6.4 (could drop lower due to tannins) but i’m planning on getting fish that love acidic water anyway. I need a tetra or schooling fish for the top/mid water as I plan on getting a male apistogramma to occupy the bottom or a pair down the line once my plants grow in and there’s plenty of hiding spots/LOS breaks. Some options I’ve been considering are:

- Rummy nose
- Cardinals
- Cherry Barbs

Any other options would be appreciated or opinions on those 3 :). I’m trying to keep in mind that this tank is brand new so Rummynose and cardinals might be too sensitive although my parameters are very ideal for their liking. Thank you!

20 Gallon Long Stocking

Hi all, I’m recently back into fish keeping as I’ve had a hiatus for about 5 years. I set up this 20 long a month ago and it’s finally hit 0 ammonia/nitrite in the last week. I bought a few ghost shrimp to test and have put a pinch of food in there to ensure the tank is ready. So far all the shrimp are doing great. Im thinking of grabbing a pair of apistogramma, but also would like some sort of schooling fish for top water, possibly cardinals or rummies (although i’m not sure if the 30 inch frame is enough swimming space for rummynose). Is this a reasonable stock? For context I have a tidal 55 on the tank stuffed w/ matrix, 2 layers of sponge & filter floss, and purigen. I also have it decently planted although I will certainly add more before grabbing the apistos, as I plan on letting the tank mature with the schooling fish before getting them. PH stays low around 6.4-7 max. Any tips on scape or stocking input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

20 Gallon Long Stocking

Hey all! I’m setting up a new 20gal long and I haven’t kept fish in a couple years. It’s currently cycling with some plants and a sand substrate. I have a tidal 55 stuffed with media and a layer of purigen. I am planning on getting 10-12 rummynose tetras and a pair of rams. Possibly some sterbai cories or kuhli loaches as bottom dwellers but I don’t want to overstock. I feel this is reasonably stocked. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
