Am I Jumping The Gun On Surgery?

Hi!
I was diagnosed with bunions today. My doctor said they're moderately progressed and gave me the option of surgery immediately. I talked it through with her, but I guess I just want some second opinions. My pain is bad but not unbearable, and I know I could try inserts and stuff first, but I feel like it'll only get worse. I started a new job on my feet around seven months ago and my now identified bunions have gotten so bad so quickly. I have to wear safety shoes specifically approved by my company, and most shoes don't fit my feet properly(tight on the front, loose on the back), so my work shoes already being a size too big hasn't helped because they're still tight in the front!!! I'm also 18, so I feel like getting it corrected now would be great. I highly doubt I can get through the rest of my life working on my feet without my bunions progressing to the point where I will need surgery. She didn't say the name of the surgery she recommended for me, but she said it was basically fusing my joints and putting a plate in. I guess I'm just hoping for some insight from people in similar situations- should I hold off? I kinda just want to get it over with, but maybe being patient and trying other things would be best. Thanks!
