Romantasy for my Wife and I to buddy read

Hi all! My wife loves Romantasy. I love Fantasy. We really want to buddy read a fantasy / Romantasy book that’s a great blend of both. I don’t mind romance but like most guys I don’t think I can handle it dominating the pages.

What’s a great a book we can both read and be satisfied with?? I don’t mind some romance.

I’ve read a lot of main fantasy along with 4th Wing (which was ok). She has read ACOTAR Universe and 4th Wing.

The only book I don’t want to try which I’ve seen recommended before was Kushiels Dart. I have a daughter and that theme creeped me out.

The Priory and The Orange Tree has caught my eye but not sure if it fits the bill.

Thoughts???

Used Book Haul - First Time

Felt like I got really lucky with this one. Coincidentally needed a new book to start as well so told myself to just start whatever I found. Needless to say the decision ended up being harder than I anticipated.

Chose to start Black Tongue Theif though. The rest are next up.

Assassin’s Apprentice: So Good

I got into fantasy from this subreddit. I started with the Hobbit then realized how much I loved this genre.

So I’ve only read books you often see in here. Everything so far has been exactly where most of us put them. Sanderson books are great. The First Law universe is great fun. And go down the list… Sun Eater, The Expanse, WOTM, LOTR.. All in my tier list where you’d expect.

Then I got my hands on this book. Robin Hobb is so unbelievably talented. Her prose is just addicting for me to read. I don’t want to leave this world she is building. I have never devoured a book so fast.

It’s been such a surprise and delight to pick this book up that was never really to high on my TBR. I didn’t have huge expectations for it and then just like that it’s easily skyrocketed to becoming the best book I’ve ever read. This has just been such an awesome experience for me. It’s the first book that I’ve read that for me, has differed a lot compared to others who read the popular books we all see get brought up here in this community.

Its a reminder of how all of our tastes are still unique to some degree and just because you don’t see some books always make that S tier, keep experimenting and trying new authors because you never know when one will surprise you after picking it up. Hobb is always on that list somewhere but for me it’s the clear S tier above everyone. Her ability to describe a warm fire lit room or whatever setting is just remarkable.

I’m 3/4 into AA and man I just can’t wait to see where this series goes…I’ll have it finished by tomorrow and have already bought the next 2.

That’s it. Just had to tell someone about this book. If you’re consideing Hobb, man go for it..

Thanks for reading my rant.

TLDR: Hobb was never one I was really looking to read soon. Due to a choice of a reading group I picked up Assassin’s Apprentice and it’s easily the best book I’ve ever read in fantasy.

Nicomo Cosca - Love this Character

I am nearing the end of Abercrombie’s Best Served Cold.

I have to say Nicomo Costca is one of my all time favorite characters in fantasy. Logan Ninefingers gets a lot of love (and well deserved). However for me Cosca steals the show. What a cool character. Unique, hilarious, smart, and flawed all at the same time.

Can we show some love to this character???

Severe Leg Pain - Bed Ridden

Hello,
I’m 37 and have had 2 past discectomies. 1 like 15 years ago and another 3 years ago.

Injured same area but opposite leg when i was doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (very dumb in hindsight).

At first it was bad but I could sit in regular chairs and couches etc.. Since then it has gone further and further downhill to the point where the only thing I can sit on is a recliner that is fully reclined.

Standing more than a minute or 2 is excruciatingly painful. More than 3 and I’m sitting on the floor no matter where I’m at.

MRI came back with no serious issues. Surgeon says he won’t do surgery due to no disc bulges etc.. He referred me to a 2nd surgeon whom I’m waiting to hear back from.

Anyone have any similar stories?? I did the PT and still do basic exercises that don’t hurt. I’m just worried because I seem to be getting worse and worse but no major things showing up on the MRI and docs are thinking it will heal on its own.

My concerns are that im regressing and pain is increasing. Anti inflammatories help during the day but wear off at night. Night time is like out of a horror film right now. Forced to take Hydrocodone to make it though in a high / dazed extremely painful state until I can take the meloxicam in the morning again.

Did do a flexion scan and waiting for results on it.

Just don’t know what to do at this point. Wondering if you folks have heard similar stories on here where it gets better on its own?
