New RCA Hire Question

Hi everyone,

I recently received a conditional offer for an RCA (Rural Carrier Associate) position with USPS and I'm trying to get a better idea of what the day-to-day reality is like.

The posting mentions that RCAs need to be flexible, may have schedule changes with little notice, and could be expected to work on non-scheduled days.

What does that actually look like? Are you basically on call all the time when you're not scheduled? Do you have to stay home waiting for a phone call, or can you go about your normal life?

Also, if management calls and you're already busy or have plans, what happens? Are you expected to drop everything and report to work, or is there some flexibility?

I'm excited about the opportunity, but I'm trying to understand the expectations before making a decision.

Any advice from current or former RCAs would be appreciated. Thanks!
