Is it possible for existing members to BYOP while keeping your old Tracfone phone number?

First of all, I'm 61 so please ELI5 (or ELI95). I'm not entirely computer-illiterate but not terribly knowledgeable about cell phone stuff. Also, I don't care about having the newest device with all the bells and whistles.

My situation is this: I have a T-Mobile Galaxy A32 5G from 2022 that was never activated. In fact, it has been sitting in a box and was never turned on until earlier this week.

The phone I'm using for my Tracfone account is even older and probably on its last legs.

I'd like to switch out the SIM card in the Galaxy A32 from T-Mobile to Tracfone, basically using the Samsung as an upgrade phone. I want to keep my current Tracfone plan and phone number. Just want to transfer it to this perfectly good phone I've had sitting around the house.

Is there any way to do this? Everything I've been able to find online talks about bringing an existing phone number from another company. I don't have a phone number assigned to this unactivated T-Mobile phone. The other option seems to be starting a new Tracfone account, which I would prefer not to do.

I should probably also add that I'm not on a monthly service plan. I'm still on the old "renew every 365 days" plan, buying data add-ons separately as needed. This works for me and because of my usage patterns is cheaper than a monthly plan, even the unlimited ones.

TIA!
