My First Comic While We Burn Just Launched on Kickstarter + Preview Pages

Hey everyone! I’m Denis Berashevich, writer/creator of While We Burn, a dark fantasy comic anthology inspired by Dark Souls/Eldern Ring and Game of Thrones. The Log Line: Fire magic gave birth to monsters and shattered the world. 100 years later, an old chronicler tries to save it by telling his stories.

The first issue is already fully written, drawn, colored, and lettered. It includes 4 short stories by 4 different artists, each with its own visual style and story. I wanted to share a few preview pages with you. In the 3rd story lettering removed to avoid spoilers.

The Kickstarter campaign is live now, but I don’t want this post to be only a promo. I’d genuinely appreciate any thoughts on the cover (I showed you less violent version for HC rather than CVR A), visuals, pages, tone, or your questions regarding any story. Which one of the stories caught your interest and why?

Thank you so much for checking it out and with that post I'm using my right to post a single link to my KS campaign.

While We Burn #1 (From Idea to Final Page, Part 3)

Coming back with my last creator behind-the-scenes for my upcoming dark fantasy comic book "While We Burn". And here's I'll show you the process for the 3rd story named "Pray", so scroll right and I'll hope that you enjoy the visuals and the process!

Do you love surrealistic stories and ideas that play with higher concepts, beyond our reality? People are trapped inside a forgotten church, and monsters are about to break in. But can faith alone be enough to survive?

For the third story, I needed a unique visual style to depict the events of “Pray”. And Utsab was a perfect choice for that one. He showed his mastery of traditional work and made this story entirely by hand. Pencils, inks, and paints — every page of that story is drawn and colored traditionally. And all of that required a very clear understanding of what we were trying to achieve, convey, and tell our readers. It was a tremendous amount of effort, but I think the third story, which I wanted to stand out with style, turned out great, and soon you’ll be able to see it for yourselves. We're actually 1 follower away from our first stretch goal, so if you'd like to give project a follow on KS - thank you!

Artist&Colors: Utsab Chatterjee

Do you like stories where heroes/protagonists don’t win?

And I'm talking quite literally – they lose, die, whatever you can think of. Period. I’m pre-launching on KS my dark fantasy comic anthology called While We Burn, and one of the core things behind it is that the characters are never truly safe (kinda like in Dark Souls/Elden Ring). They lose, suffer, make mistakes, and sometimes pay for them, badly.

I’m curious how people here feel about that kind of story. What are your favorite examples of such stories, if you can recall any? Does it make things feel more honest and intense when the stakes get high, or does it just become frustrating after a certain point? It seem to me that Absolute Batman "kinda" working on those tropes, and it's doing it quite successfully.

I’ve been wondering about that a lot while putting my own project together, but still went down that route. And now I’m pre-launching my KS after 2 years of work, lol :D

Let me know your thoughts! I've attached some page process for you to check on while you're thinking!

While We Burn #1 Stories Line-Up

I want to share with you guys the story line-up of my soon upcoming dark fantasy short comic anthology While We Burn #1 on Kickstarter. The first three stories are on the pics, but Story #4 description is hidden.

Can you guess what it might be about, and which one would you be most interested in reading first based on the short premise alone?

Coming back with another creator behind-the-scenes, now for the second story of my upcoming anthology, so scroll right and enjoy the visuals and the process!

Here’s the question for that episode post: What are you mostly paying attention to when reading comics yourselves?

Example given on my upcoming comic anthology "While We Burn" from the second story named “King of The Night”. That's is a 2nd out of 4 completely finished stories and more of an action/adventure rather than character reflection on the world and himself like in the 1st story (Tavish), although introspection is still present there too. If you feel like interested in that dark fantasy series or simply love emotional stories with twists, please consider checking the pre-launch page and rest is up to you!

I wanted to ask you. guys: what is your favorite part in comics? Is that the story or the visuals, or both? Maybe some of you love colors or pay attention to lettering or SFX? Let me know, I’m interested.

Hey, guys! Wanted to share some visual steps with you of how an idea turns into the final comic page. I wanted to ask you: what is your favourite part in comics? Is it the story or the visuals, or both? Maybe some of you love colors or pay attention to lettering or SFX? Let me know, I’m interested.

Me, personally: I look at it with both joy and sadness: my 40-page story took me almost 2 years, but sharing those steps feels like a minute or two. At the same time I'm really excited for people to finally checking it out. Every step is a story for me.

Example given on my upcoming comic anthology "While We Burn" from story "Tavish. The Survivor". That's just 1 out of 4 completely finished stories. A lot of talented people worked on that anthology right now the stories are getting revealed, so if you have any questions - feel free to ask them. I'll try to answer to my best.

Hey, fellow indie enjoyers and comic creators! I wanted to present you my comic. It is a dark fantasy book. Fully finished, drawn, colored and lettered I've put all I can into that issue. And I would really appreciate if you guys, give it a look and decide to join the adventure!

While We Burn is a series of short stories in a comic format, each drawn by a different artist and each offering a unique experience in both storytelling and visuals. Every story meant to leave memories.

In this dark medieval fantasy world created from scratch, you will follow the paths of diverse characters struggling to survive as you uncover the mystery of the fallen kingdom on a journey where no one is safe and monsters prevail. Fans of Dark Souls/Elden Ring and Game of Thrones will probably like that book. Bellow I'll send a trailer I've made myself and the link on KS Pre-Launch. If you have any questions or would like to know more about the stories, just let me know!
