Looking for a writer

Have you ever wanted to have a serialization in shonen jump?If you want to collaborate with a rookie artist and want to develop our skill then that would be me

I’m an artist and manga creator working under the pen name LOKIZON. (I’m currently developing a 45-page sci-fi/fantasy manga chapter titled Rexus, with the ultimate goal of submitting it to the Shonen Jump Web Bring In.I have the core concept, characters, and the main plot beats mapped out, but I’m looking for a dedicated writer to collaborate with on dialogue, pacing, script-writing, and future chapters.)

I am also open to do a writer ‘s own series and I am pitching Rexus as just a idea to help not as a demand or being selfish and even if your writing skills are not high level or like professional. We could still both as a team develop our skills.

I am completely transparent about the fact that I am still actively developing and leveling up my art skills. , my goal is for us to also create a completely new one-shot together specifically to enter into an official Shonen Jump contest (like the Tezuka Award).**

If we win, I plan to use 50% of my share of the prize/reward money to fund professional drawing classes so I can drastically improve my art and bring our future work to a professional industry standard.

What I’m looking for: A reliable writer who loves high-stakes shonen structure, cool power systems, and deep world-building, and who wants to grow alongside an artist.

If you're interested in building something together as a team, drop a comment or send me a DM with some of your writing samples!

How often do you write per week?

Taking a quick poll:

How often do you actually sit down and write each week, whether it’s in comic book script format or your own method?

What genre do you love writing most? Western comics, manga, horror, sci-fi, fantasy, slice of life, superhero, etc.?

How dedicated would you say you are to writing consistently?

Also, do you have any advice, routines, or methods that help you keep going when you feel uninspired?

Curious to hear how other writers approach the process.

Is my graphic novel project DOA?

(Art by Ralph Barrientos, Lettering by KamThings)

I'm an unpublished writer. About a year back I wrote a 140 page dark fantasy graphic novel script, with the intention of submitting it to agents. But as I was learning more about the industry, and posting my query letter for reviews, I started getting some worrying comments that suggested the project wasn't viable in the first place, that no agent would pick it up because no publisher would consider it. Not for the content itself, just the circumstances around it. So I got cold feet and never sent out any queries. So the script has been gathering dust ever since.

Thing is, I'm still really proud of it, it's some of my best writing yet, and I'm thinking... if I already have the script, and I paid an artist and letterer to make gorgeous sample pages, I might as well query it. But even that would take time and effort, so if the script is completely DOA it's not worth it. But now I can't get that thought out of my head, so I figured I'd ask around to see if anyone has more insight.

Here are all the things that might work against the project:

  • I hired an artist to make the sample pages. His work is incredible as you can see, and he's on board for the full project if it gets picked up, but of course that means the publisher would need to pay enough to satisfy his rates (which are very generous at $75, but still, apparently that's not a given in the industry). At least, he was on board last we spoke, I'd have to ask him if his schedule would still allow this.
  • There's technically a co-writer and co-owner of the IP. I came up with the story and wrote the script, but the world and most of the characters were created by someone else. We don't want a joint writing career; they're not even really a writer, this is the only IP we really want to collab on.
  • On that note, while this graphic novel works as a standalone, we still want to do more with the IP later. This was technically written as a spin-off to a larger story that doesn't lend itself very well to the graphic novel format (we were hoping for a comic/manga series, but realistically it's probably gonna end up being a series of Visual Novels).

From what I understand, the industry doesn't like any of these things.

The current plan was to eventually turn this script itself into a Visual Novel and just make it ourselves, but that'd require extensive rewriting, and I think it'd probably be a weaker version of the story than what I have currently written. There'd be a few advantages I suppose, but one of the draws of the story is you not being quite sure what's going on in the main character's head, which would be fundamentally changed in a VN. The atmospheric feel would also not quite get across. Plus, I'm not entirely sure we'll ever get around to being able to make those VN's, which is yet another reason I'd like to get this script out there - if that massive and ambitious story never materialises, at least a small piece of that universe and those characters would see the light of day.

So yeah, how screwed are we from the get-go? Is it worth a shot?

"Is it okay to not feel That excited about my own art as a beginner?"

It's day 314 of learning and drawing everyday.
Never skipped a day thus far, in fact, I can't leave a day without drawing, but still.
Recently I finished my 6 page First Comic, it took me 2 weeks to finish it.
but I still can't celebrate yet , and can't help it but to sigh every time I see it, knowing that it doesn't stand to my expectations.
No colors, No shading, No enough detailing, and overall uninteresting plot even tho It's just a short comic.

It's not that I'm feeling demotivated and want to stop, rather I want to know if it's okay to feel this way in this stage of learning art.

In case you wonder what skills I have learned thus far, I've learned:

- basic shape manipulating.
- vanishing points (1 to 3) and eye line (Or eye level?)
- gestures and basic anatomy.
basically the bare minimum.

I choose comic not because of external means, just because I want to make my own comics.

Looking for Colorist for 26 pages (~$60 / page)

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a Colorist for Chapter 3 of my graphic novel. It's about a dream detective named Whitney Frenata, who is sent to investigate a strange "nightmare fever" spreading around a city in the aftermath of a destructive solar flare.

I want to have the entire thing colored eventually, but I'm an abysmally slow artist and it probably won't be finished for another 2-3 years. In the meantime, I want to get a proof of concept on how the finished art could look, and figure out some of the difficulties that might arise working with my art style. I'm just doing Chapter 3 for now because I'm satisfied with the inks, Chapters 1 and 2 need some revising.

The art was made with a Ligne Claire style in mind, but I'm open to other coloring interpretations. My backgrounds are often fairly detailed, so good use of contrast is important to make sure the action is easily visible. Being able to capture the mood is very important as well! I'm a big fan of the colors in games like Night in the Woods and Nevermore 3. Not that I expect my pages to look like that, but I would love to find a similar combination of beautiful lighting with simple colors!

Pay starts at $60 per page, with a $300 bonus on completion of the 26 pages (Total $1860 USD). If you think you could do a really nice job but need more money feel free to pitch me! This is my baby and I want it to look beautiful :)

To be clear, this is NOT a contract for coloring the full book, and you are NOT guaranteeing you will be available in the future. If things go ideally, I would love to commission the rest, but this will be 2-3 years away.

The pages above will hopefully give you an idea of the project. If you want to read the WIP Chapter 3 it's here - NSFW for the aforementioned nudity.

Right now my plan is to pick 3-5 Colorists and commission a trial page for $100. If you're interested, please drop your portfolio in the comments. Thank you!

"How to manage script writing in a busy schedule?"

Considering certain life circumstances, I can Easily get scattered minded when it comes to making a new script for my next short comic.
especially because it takes lots of time to think about it when my schedule is already full.

So what do you recommend me to do or apps to use?

New here: has anyone been hired?

I’m thinking about offering my writing services after I finalize my portfolio, and am interested in this sub!

Question for those of you who have posted about you wanting to be hired in various positions, have any of you actually been hired sometime after posting? So does this sub really network people? Please comment if you’ve gotten a job after posting here, and tell me a little bit about it if you can! (Like if it’s paid or unpaid)

I’ve felt a little unhopeful that I’d be found by the right person to hire me 😅 any info about this will help!
Thank you!!!

r/ComicBookCollabs Success Story

I'm a writer/creator and had a graphic novel collecting dust. Hadn't touched it in years. In a moment of serendipity, I happen to come across this sub and see a post by u/Longjumping_Set3236 offering his services as an artist. His art was perfect for my work. Within a day or two, we were making comic pages. I wanted to take the opportunity to show off his work and show off a product of the sub. Thanks r/ComicBookCollabs!

Are there any other success stories out there from this sub?

"Struggling to draw comics for more than 40mins."

Considering my experience in Reddit, I would assume that the shorter the message the more comments I get.
So here is my problem:

For some reason, I can't seem to focus on my comic creation for more than 30 to 40mins.
After that, I get a heavy feeling of procrastination and can't keep going.

I would dive into details if you asked for it.

Letterer in need

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for a letterer to join my comic project. It's a paid opportunity, and I'm hoping to find someone who wants to be creatively involved rather than simply placing dialogue on the page.

The series is a Southern Gothic horror/fantasy set in 1910s Mississippi, blending folklore, faith, supernatural horror, and emotional character drama. The atmosphere is just as important as the dialogue, so I'm looking for someone whose lettering enhances the storytelling.

I'm specifically looking for someone who:

  • Has experience lettering comic books.
  • Understands pacing and knows when to let a page breathe.
  • Can creatively place dialogue to guide the reader's eye.
  • Thinks beyond speech balloons and can suggest or design impactful SFX, whispers, environmental sounds, and other lettering details that elevate a scene.
  • Wants to collaborate and isn't afraid to offer ideas if they think a page could be stronger.

If you're interested, please comment below or send me a DM with:

  • Your portfolio.
  • Your page rate.
  • Any previous comic work you've lettered.

I'd love to see horror, fantasy, or atmospheric work in particular, but I'm happy to look at any strong portfolio.

Looking forward to connecting with some talented letterers!

New comic writing subreddit?

u/nmacaroni banned me from the r/comicwriting because I questioned their aggressive moderation even though I've contributed to the sub in the past. Anyways, who would be interested in joining a new comic writing subreddit without u/nmacaroni? Write on, write often just don't dare do it at r/comicwriting!

Edit: I made one so if you want feel free to join r/writecomics!
