Keep Receipts - Track and Save the Development of All Your Creative Projects - You Will Be Accused of AI at Some Point

This is only for people that don't use AI. Ultimately, people are leveling accusations of AI without any sort of investigation. This is part of the new world. I'm thankful that I wrote a couple things before the AI explosion and I have my work copyrighted. Any new work requires you to keep all your drafts for evidence. I'm working on a graphic novel and somebody already mentioned that my work looks like AI. I was offended for my artist, but this is the world we live in. I keep the progress of all the work. You can see the whole development of my project. Putting a no AI label is tacky and just draws more attention. My only stance on AI is that whoever uses it, should add a label, but I don't think that will happen.

Help - Where Can I Upload a Free Sample of My Graphic Novel for Promotional Purposes?

I'm trying to drum up interest for my graphic novel, Birth of a New World. I'm still looking for a publisher, so I don't want to self-publish my work. I have a solid sample and want to use that for promotional purposes. I already have the sample available on GlobalComix. I've tried ComicFury, but I'm having issues navigating that site. My graphic novel is a traditional comic. I will try to post it on manga sites, but I don't know if that will go over well. Please, help me out. The goal is to reach readers because I believe the work is good enough. I also put the sample and pitch bible on my website: tesmekonnen.com/pitchbible

I have an instagram dedicated to the graphic novel. WEBTOON has weird wording on their agreements that made me remove it from there. Tapas is one that I might revisit.

Give Us Your Best Advice (People that Are Creating a Comic Book or Have Created a Comic Book)

What is the best advice you can give to someone that wants to create a comic book? I wish I would've come across this sub when I first started creating my graphic novel. This project has turned into a long, rock relationship. I would've saved a lot of heartache and money, if I would've studied the landscape. Money is a big issue. It costs a lot of money to produce these things and they rarely recoup. Crowdfunding is the life-support of comic books.

Everybody wants to create a comic book, but nobody wants to pay the costs (not just monetary) to create a comic book.

My Best Advice - Write a script and get it properly edited.

QUESTION: What Are You Currently Working and How is it Going?

I'm wondering what people are working on and how it's going. Creating comics are a real labor of love. The fact comics are created is really an amazing thing and really shows how much people love the medium. There is so much going against the person creating a comic. Money is usually the issue for the writer/creator. I'm speaking on behalf of the writer/creator.

I'm currently working on a graphic novel. My difficulty is trying to get published and dealing with the marketing of my graphic novel. I'm playing the waiting game. Waiting has always been the issue with traditional publishing.

Let us know what you are creating. If you're having trouble creating your comic, I would like to know what are the problems.

What Exactly is Going On with GlobalComix?

I'm speaking as a creator. I love their platform. Indie creators don't have that many places to upload their comics. They are responsive and helpful. It is easy to upload your work. There seems to be a big shakeup going on. I know a lot of comic readers are leaving because major publishers are removing their comics (IMAGE). As an indie creator, we need GlobalComix. What other platforms can indie creators showcase, or sell their work?

Being a comic creator is a bunch of hurdles. Difficult to create, hard to sell one. I hope GlobalComix remains the same and is a platform for creators. Anybody know what is going on?

CREATING COMIC BOOKS REQUIRE SOME SORT OF MIRACLE - WHY DO YOU WANT TO CREATE A COMIC BOOK?

I'm genuinely curious. Why do you want to create a comic book? It seems like everything is against the creator. I'm talking to the writer/creators. If you know how to draw, this world is perfect for you. This was my first foray into this world. My comic book turned into a graphic novel and this journey has been ridiculously hard at every turn. I bit off more than I can chew. I merely had an idea and it ballooned. The amount of money one has to spend to create one is exorbitant. The market for traditional comic books is really small. It is so hard to get published. Mangas are the wave. Outside of me just wanting to complete, I do not why I continue. Everything is against the comic book creator. You're just meet with resistance. You have to constantly hustle to get eyes on your book. Almost have to be a masochist to keep creating. Shoutout to all the people creating these things.

Birth of a New World - My Pitch is Now Available on My Website

I'm stilling looking for a publisher. I am aware that it is a long shot, but it is worth a try. I want to be traditionally published. I've tried the self-publishing route and I don't want to go through that painful process again. I don't want to self-publish...as that will obliterate my chances of getting published by a publisher. I learned my lesson. Years ago, I wrote a children's book. I thought I was being proactive by self-publishing it. All it did was destroy my chances of getting published, I think.

Birth of a New World is my graphic novel. I am the writer/creator. I'm trying to do everything in the correct fashion. I've submitted to numerous agents and publishers. I've tried smaller comic book companies. No bites. I decided to put my whole pitch on my website (tesmekonnen.com/pitchbible). I know the terminology is used for a tv series. But is a great standalone project. I believe it as adaptation qualities. That is thinking way too far.

The pitch bible It contains everything and is very comprehensive. Again, I don't want to sell my book because that is how I messed up the possibility of traditionally publishing my children's book. I did create a free sample to attract readers. Do I need to play the waiting game? Am I doing myself a disservice by posting the whole pitch on my website? I would really appreciate any advice.

Feel free to check it out at https://www.tesmekonnen.com/pitchbible

Tender is the Flesh Will Be a Brilliant Horror Movie!

I recently read Tender is the Flesh. It was an amazingly disturbing book. I know it came out not too long ago, but it needs to be made into a horror movie. or some sort of limited series. Anybody read it? It was profoundly eerie. Does anybody have any book recommendations that provoke the same feeling? I don’t like gory stuff.

Would it Look Tacky to Put a No AI Label On the Cover of My Graphic Novel?

Unfortunately, this is now a reality. AI is so prevalent and has inundated our timeline. This is not a stance on AI. My biggest fear came to light when somebody mentioned that my graphic novel could possibly be done using AI. I feel like it a disservice to my artist and me. I spent a lot of money and he has spent a lot of time drawing my graphic novel. The rough thumbnails, the penciling, the line art are all in a Google Drive folder. That is something every artist and writer will need to do, I think. Keep receipts, just in case. Disregard the red lines, but I'm going to be placing a label on my front cover. Does it look tacky? Do you think this will be a norm in the future? Again, this is not an attack on AI. I'm just pointing out that no AI was used in the creation of my graphic novel.

So There is No Way of Preventing People from Uploading My images into AI tools?

Recently, I was approached by somebody and they mentioned they would love to make a manga version of my graphic novel by using AI tools. I said no because my work doesn't utilize AI. There really is no way of preventing people from uploading my graphic novel pages into an AI tool to create variations, huh? I spent a lot of money by hiring artists and feel like we are getting shafted. I'm merely trying to promote my work and it just sucks. I wish there was a tool that disallows images from being used...it gets flagged when you try to upload the image. I'm just an indie creator.

Birth of a New World - Taking It One Page, or One Panel at a Time

Birth of a New World is my graphic. It took years just to get to this point. I've quit half a dozen times. But I'm here. I made a lot of mistakes. I didn't properly study the medium before I jumped in. If you're going to start--start small. We all have these big imaginations, but it is not practical. I'm almost 200 pages down. I don't have a publisher. I'm running out of money. Trying to find an audience is difficult. I can barely get people to read my stuff and it is free (Part 1). I'm trying to find a publisher, but the market is tough. I don't know why I continue, but I continue. I believe in my story. I just don't know how to market my project.

To all the folks that want to create a comic, good luck. It is hard hill to climb. The fact that these projects even get made are little miracles. It takes so much work and money just to create a single page.
