My One-shot webtoon!

Finally finished my one-shot webtoon after almost 2 months of work! 😭

It's a post-apocalyptic survival story called IN THE LAST DAYS, and I made it as an entry for the MangaDraft Global Comic Awards.

If you have a few minutes to spare, I'd really appreciate it if you could give it a read. More than anything, I'd love to hear your honest thoughts whether it's about the story, pacing, dialogue, artwork, or anything else. I'm always looking to improve as a creator.

Thanks so much for checking it out, and I hope you enjoy the read! ❤️

The Leading Ladies — A Retro Comics One-Shot

My creative partner and I have created a weird exploration of the golden age of female comic characters, specifically focused on Fantomah, Lady Lucifer, and The Woman in Red. Haven't heard of Lady Lucifer before? There might be a reason for that…

I’m Running out of time!

THERES ONLY 13 DAYS LEFT!

What happens when a teenager with attitude becomes an adult with trauma? Sho Imahara finds out when he's in his thirties as the last original member of his Sentai team with less respect than you'd think that would garner. Things get worse after the team stops the lastest attack from alien terror group Higher Truth. The culprit is revealed to be his ex-best friend and Old Squad mate, Makoto. Questions lead to conspiracy. Conspiracy leads to search for the truth. Follow Sho down this rabbithole as he learns the secrets of his friend, COMPASS, the organization he works for, and faces the mistakes of his past.

Check out Stellar Remnant Issue 2 on Kickstarter Now

BACK NOW!

Issue 2 finds Sho on the run with the secret Makoto is in prison to protect. So not only does he have to worry about his companions on NOVA Team, who are currently tailing him, but Higher Truth might want to have some words. Problem is, Sho's always been better with his fist.

Honestly, I freaking out there are only 13 days left and I’m not quite there yet. But we worked really hard on this comic and I think it’ll be worth reading.

How are you handling two-page spreads in the digital age?

Hey everyone,

I'd love to hear how you handle two-page spreads when it comes to digital formats. When writing my comic, I'm always thinking with a "print-first" mindset, as I love a good double-page spread for making a massive story beat stand out.

But digital platforms aren't really built for a two pager - I'm using Global Comix, and only 20% of my readers are viewing by double pages.

So how do you approach this? Do you completely avoid digital spreads now? Do you cut it into two pages and make sure the lettering strictly flows page to page so it cuts cleanly? Or do rotate the page so it fits in a single page and make the reader rotate their screen?

Link to my comic in case anyone's curious to see what it looks like in Global Comix:

The Hard Data on "Political Comics" vs. Genre Comics on Kickstarter Right Now

Hey community,

We’re seeing a really interesting narrative play out on Kickstarter this week between two massive anthology projects, and it says a lot about what comic readers are actually willing to pay for right now.

I just posted a deep dive video looking at the numbers behind Civil Disobedience (currently stalling at 51% of its goal) and comparing it directly to Noir is the New Black (completely funded and thriving).

Both books are tackling heavy, real-world issues, but their marketing strategies couldn't be more different. One sells the message upfront as an activist's handbook, while the other seamlessly integrates those same heavy social themes into a beloved, gritty genre framework (Noir/Crime).

I took a look at the math, including how average pledge tiers ($45+) show a passionate core audience, but why breaking out of the "preaching to the choir" bubble is harder than ever due to social media algorithms suppressing external links and political content.

Check out the breakdown video here:

https://youtu.be/\_y3xvoEBY6c?is=Car83AUbn\_cPHMq\_

If you're backing indie books right now, where do you stand? Are you looking for pure escapism from the current news cycle, or do you just prefer your heavy themes wrapped up in a solid genre story? Let's discuss.

I just launched Apex Comics — a comics-focused CBZ/CBR reader for Android

Hey everyone,

I collect comics digitally. Over the years I've tried a lot of readers - most of them feel like "open a folder and swipe." Fine, but not how I think about a collection.

I've been building Apex Comics for a long time, and it just went live on Google Play. I'm an indie dev and a comic reader myself - I got tired of file browsers pretending to be libraries, and apps that either lock basics behind subscriptions or treat your collection like an afterthought.

So I built the reader I wanted on my shelf.

A library, not a file list

Apex is an Android reader built for comics - CBZ and CBR files. Point it at your folder once - series group naturally, progress stays honest, covers and issue details turn raw archives into a shelf you're proud to open. Searchable, organized, actually pleasant to browse. Offline-first. No forced cloud. No account required. Your files stay on your device.

v1 is comics-first. I'm deliberately focusing on the Western comic collector experience (Marvel, DC, indie shelves, etc.) before expanding. Manga and webtoons may come in future updates - each format deserves its own reading logic - but right now the priority is doing comics right.

Reading that respects the medium (free)

  • Full-screen reader with horizontal, vertical, and dual-axis modes
  • Ambient mode - soft background color pulled from the page art
  • Deep zoom, smooth page turns, pull to jump to the next issue without breaking flow
  • Progress saved locally, covers and metadata enrichment

Premium (optional - one lifetime unlock, no monthly fee)

The core reader stays free. Premium is for collectors who want the full ritual:

  • Guided View - panel-by-panel reading on dense pages, in the order the artist intended
  • X-Ray - who's on the page, powers, creators, backstory, without spoiling the rest of the universe
  • Discovery - follow your series, browse this week and next from Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, Boom!, IDW, and more; alerts when books you care about drop
  • Premium Stats - activity heatmap, reading streaks, verified completions, top series, heroes, and publishers - all local and private, no ad dashboards
  • Multiple libraries - Keep separate collections — manga, Marvel, backups — each with its own folder, sections, and sort. Switch instantly without rescanning.
  • Ad-free reading

Launch Offer: To celebrate the v1 release and thank early adopters, the lifetime unlock is currently $9.99 (regular price $12.99).

One payment. Lifetime. No subscription eating into your pull list budget.

Why I'm posting

This is v1 on the store - comics only for now. I'm not pretending it's perfect - I'm here because I genuinely want your feedback from comic readers. Bugs, UX friction, missing features, "why did you do it this way?" - all welcome.

I also created a subreddit to keep the conversation in one place:

r/apexcomics - https://www.reddit.com/r/apexcomics/

Roadmap ideas, feature requests, show-and-tell of your setup - that's the home for it.

Try it

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uppr.apexcomics

There's a fuller breakdown with screenshots, feature details, and pricing on the site: https://apex-comics.uppr.be/

If you test it, I'd love to hear:

  • Does your library scan and organize the way you expect?
  • How does the reader feel compared to what you use today?
  • What's the one thing your current reader still doesn't do right?

Thanks for reading. Happy to answer anything in the comments.

My husband wrote indie comics for years, now his first manga is entering the Kodansha Manga Contest!

My husband has been writing indie comics for a few years now, including Haven and Sketch Knight, but this is his first time making a manga!! 🙌🥹

The new project is called Tytan and he partnered with an artist to enter it into the Kodansha Manga Academy Award Contest. Together they created Thirty Five Haze!

I’ve shared some of his comics here before, and honestly, one of the biggest ways I try to support him is by helping get his work in front of people who might actually love it. 🫶😁

He puts so much of himself into these stories, and watching him take the leap from indie comics into his first manga has made me so proud. I know I’m biased because I’m his wife, but I really believe in what he’s building.💕

Right now the Kickstarter is in prelaunch, so follows help a lot. It’s free to follow, but it helps build momentum before launch and lets people get notified when it goes live. 🫶

I don’t want this to feel like a promo dump, so I’ll put the link in the comments for anyone curious. Even feedback on the art, concept, or pitch would mean a lot.

Thank you, loves!! 🫶❣️

What Do You Think of This Setting Design?

The setting of my comic Colorum Regis is called The City of Art. I really want to explore the idea of creativity and a world built on expression. To that end each district of the city that new arcs will take place in have their own art styles. So tell me what you all think of “Impressionist Town”
