Cover 3 Reveal! (Better Late Than Never... Right?)

Look... we know. We know. We promised to reveal Cover 3 last week.

We’d love to tell you a grand, dramatic story about how a rogue supervillain trapped us in an impenetrable block of arctic ice, or how a shadowy syndicate held our Wi-Fi router for ransom. But the truth is... well, okay, let’s go with the arctic ice story, because look at this cover!

Without further ado, feast your eyes on Cover 3 drawn by the legend himself, Neil Vokes!

Follow for launch date!

What’s Happening Here?

As you can see, our cold-hearted friend up front is doing his absolute best to give a serious, intimidating press statement to WGUD News... while the rest of the rogue's gallery behind him can barely hold in their snickers.

That pretty much sums up the vibe of Villains Anonymous #1: big villainous egos, terrible timing, and everyone laughing behind each other's backs (which, coincidentally, is also how our creative team operates).

Huge shoutout to Neil Vokes for bringing his signature style to this incredible cover, along with writer/letterer John McLaren, colorist LM Creations and amazing interior artist P.R. Dedelis making this whole issue look downright sinister!

Bask in the glory of owning the coolest (literally) cover in the campaign.

Thank you all so much for your support, your patience with our "slightly delayed" updates, and for helping bring Villains Anonymous to life!

Stay tuned—more updates (on time, hopefully!) coming soon!

Cover #4 Reveal: 8/24/2026

Cover #5 Reveal: 9/7/2026

Cover #6 Reveal (Retailer Variant!): 9/26/2026 (Local Comic Shop Day)

1985 Mattel Pink Party Popple mini

Anyone else remember spending endless hours flipping these things inside out until the pouch stretched out?

Unlike the full-sized plush Popples, these Pocket Minis had the hard plastic vinyl body with the fleece hood and curly hair top.

Party Popple was always the designated ringleader of the group—hot pink, neon purple cheeks, and maximum '80s chaos. I used to stuff her into my backpack or jacket pocket and pop her head out during class.

Did you have the minis or the full-sized plush version growing up? Which character was your favorite?

My custom Jerkbox figure from Manning Krull’s Jerkbox & Punk'nhead (2000)!

Taking a quick trip back to the year 2000! I made this custom Jerkbox figure based on Manning Krull’s classic indie comic series Jerkbox & Punk'nhead.

It was such a blast trying to translate that distinct 2000s indie comic style into 3D form back then. Always loved the character design and attitude of those books.

I wonder if Manning still has it?

Any other fans of Manning's work remember this series? Let me know what you think!

Custom Angelhawk from Amalgam Comics

So back in the 90s I was starting my own comic and was making custom figures I thought would never be made, so I present Amalgam Comics Angelhawk!

For anyone who remembers the wild mid-90s fever dream that was Amalgam Comics, this absolute legend (the unholy fusion of the Angel and Hawkman) deserved some plastic justice.

[PROJECT] We made a "Villains Anonymous 3D Printed Sobriety Chip" for Day 1 Kickstarter backers (because we all know you can’t stop buying physical tier loot).

Look, we need to have a talk.

We’ve all been there. You tell yourself, "I’m just gonna back one quick digital PDF." Next thing you know, it’s 3:00 AM, you’re at the $250 Mega Ultra Collector Tier, and you’re explaining to your partner why a signed variant cover with custom foil-stamping is an "essential household investment."

You don't need another impulse buy. You need a 12-step program.

Which brings us to our upcoming Kickstarter for Villains Anonymous—a comic literally about bad decisions, terrible life choices, and support groups for supervillains trying to keep their urge to take over the world at bay.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/phantominkcomics/villains-anonymous-a-comic-about-societys-least-wanted

Since we fully understand the struggle, we're giving out an official FREE Villains Anonymous 3D Printed Sobriety Chip to EVERY Day 1 Backer of any physical tier.

🏆 The Official "1 Month Free of Evil" Chip Features:

  • Instant Bragging Rights: Proof that you are trying to be better (even if you failed instantly by backing another indie comic).
  • Tactile Grounding: Hold it tightly whenever you feel the urge to monologue, construct a death ray, or order a $40 acrylic standee.
  • 100% Day 1 Exclusive: Fresh off the 3D printer, tangible, and only available for the first 24 hours of the campaign.

If you like indie comics, flawed characters, and collecting physical tokens of your questionable financial choices, hit the pre-launch page and lock in that Day 1 bonus!

Drop a comment below with your worst Kickstarter backer horror story or your favorite villain vice—let's support each other.

Deep Dive on a Grail: The Vintage 1985 Olmec "Rulers of the Sun" Pig-Head Figure

I’ve been down a huge 80s MOTU and knock-off/competitor rabbit hole lately, and I wanted to talk about one of the coolest, most underappreciated villain figures of that entire decade: Pig-Head from Olmec Toys' Rulers of the Sun line.

For those who don't know the history, Olmec Toys released Rulers of the Sun back in 1985 (created by Yla Eason) to give kids of color a hero that looked like them (Sun-Man). But every great hero needs a wild, over-the-top villain—and Olmec delivered with Pig-Head, Prince Zegor transformed into a half-man, half-hog warlord.

What Makes the Vintage Figure Stand Out:

  • Wild 80s Color Palette: Bright lime-green skin, piercing yellow eyes with red pupils, a teal/sparkly blue chest piece, burgundy/pink accents, and light-yellow scaled shorts. It is unapologetically loud in the best way possible.
  • Asymmetrical Asymmetrical Tusks: The sculpt on the face has one tusk pointing up on the right and two pointing down on the left—gives him so much chaotic personality.
  • Distinct Sculpting: Unlike a lot of generic MOTU knock-offs from the era, Pig-Head had unique wrist bracers, custom textured shorts, and distinctive boot trims.
  • The Accessories: Came loaded with his signature teal spiked mace and that bright pink/teal shield.

Why It's Getting Love Again

With Mattel bringing Rulers of the Sun into the MOTU Origins and Masterverse lines over the last few years, it’s awesome seeing new generations discover this guy. But nothing quite hits like seeing the original 1985 vintage release in all its bright, unvarnished glory.

Questions for the group:

  1. Do you prefer the vintage 1985 Olmec original or the modernized MOTU Origins translation?
  2. Who was your favorite villain from outside the official He-Man/Skeletor lineup back in the day?

Let’s hear your thoughts!

Thinking of adding ad space to my webcomic — what should I charge for full/half/quarter page?

I’m currently planning out my upcoming comic release/monetization strategy, and I’m considering offering ad space in the actual pages (similar to classic comic book ads or featured indie creator shoutouts).

Before I jump in, I wanted to pick the brain of the community here to see what’s considered fair/standard pricing and best practice.

For those of you who have bought or sold ad space in webcomics or indie floppies:

  1. What would you charge (or expect to pay) for:
    • Full Page Ad:
    • Half Page Ad:
    • Quarter Page Ad:
  2. What metrics matter most to you when setting/evaluating prices? (Page views, readership/subscriber count, social following, etc.?)
  3. Any major pros/cons or pitfalls to look out for?

For context, my main goal is to keep it affordable for fellow indie creators while still making it worth the page real estate.

Would love to hear your thoughts, experiences, or any rough guidelines you use! Thanks in advance!

  • The Digital Purists: You want crisp, high-res panels on your iPad while pretending you’re paying attention on a Zoom call.

[Poll] Villains Anonymous Sobriety Chips: Bronze, Silver, or Gold?

Hey everyone! Quick question for the community.

We’re putting together custom sobriety chips as a fun promo item/backer reward for Villains Anonymous, and we’d love your input on which metal finish looks best for the flagship design!

Which color do you think fits the vibe best?

  • Bronze – Classic, gritty, anti-hero aesthetic.
  • Silver – Sleek, modern, polished supervillain look.
  • Gold – Bold, ostentatious, "I'm reformed and flaunting it."

Drop a comment with your vote (Bronze, Silver, or Gold) and let us know why!

Thanks for helping us choose!

Villains Anonymous – A upcoming comedic comic about the absolute worst (and most pathetic) supervillains in town.

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share a quick heads-up about an upcoming indie comic project launching soon on Kickstarter called Villains Anonymous.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/phantominkcomics/villains-anonymous-a-comic-about-societys-least-wanted

If you like stories that flip the traditional superhero genre on its head (think The Tick meets Office Space), this one is all about the bottom of the barrel.

The Premise:

Forget grand cosmic threats or criminal masterminds. This story follows society's least wanted—small-time public nuisances, petty annoyances, and desperate wannabes who keep failing so miserably that they end up sentenced to a court-ordered behavioral rehab clinic.

The twist? The clinic’s head, Dr. Mendle Gregorson, isn't actually trying to rehabilitate anyone. He’s using the support group to secretly recruit the city's most "unnoticeable" nobodies for an overarching criminal mastermind named Herr Freon.

Why check it out?

  • The "Underdog" Villain Angle: Hilarious support group dynamics, bizarre powers, and spectacular failures.
  • Relatable Humility: It's a comedic look at what happens when your evil plots keep getting ruined by basic life stuff (or third-tier heroes).
  • Indie-Created: Written by John McLaren and created by TheRealToteMan.

The Kickstarter pre-launch page is officially up now! If you’re into quirky indie comics, bizarre character dynamics, or hilarious superhero parodies, hit "Notify me on launch" on Kickstarter to catch it as soon as it goes live.

I'd love to know: what's your favorite "useless" or low-tier villain trope in comics? Drop 'em below!
