70s/80s/90s Horrors and Thrillers That Take Place In Big, Heritage Mansions?

Any subgenre. Just really want more big massive house (old fashioned mansions, manors, fancy houses, etc) horror movies. From possessions to hauntings to slashers, it all counts.

Thanks!

I think Lee Cronin's The Mummy is going to become a cult classic

I'm watching it right now for the second time, and it truly is hilarious, so gross, and ridiculous.

I wish they'd go back in and tighten up the edit, especially the last 30 minutes, but it really is so much fun I can see it gaining cult status.

We Saw "Obsession" and We Have Thoughts

There are very few moments in a horror fan's life that feel like witnessing something genuinely new. Obsession is one of them. Kelli, Leah, and I got ourselves to the theater this weekend and we have thoughts. Many, many thoughts. And possibly a new favorite movie of the year. Obsession is definitely a film worth seeing in a packed theater. It is scary, thoughtful, and ultimately HILARIOUS!

Barbarian did the unthinkable in a crowded year full of stiff competition: The Dawn of Zach Cregger

One of the best horror movies of the generation, arguably only topped by the director's subsequent film "Weapons".

The competition it had that same year (2022):

Terrifier 2

Scream 5

Bones and All

Pearl

Nope

Scream No Evil

X

The Menu

Men

Smile

Deadstream

Fresh

Watcher

Prey

Bodies Bodies Bodies

....and it still wiped the floor with all of them. Financial success, UNIVERSAL acclaim from both critics and audiences, and now the director is the hottest new thing in town, releasing Weapons to amazing success and soon the new Resident Evil, and beyond. This director can literally do anything he wants right now. He's earned the good graces of everyone, critics and audiences alike. He's the Tarantino of horror, hot new director dropping two classics back to back and having everyone excited to see what he does next. That name Zach Cregger now puts butts in seats.

Caretaker - A film about the one who suffers and those who suffer around them.

Hello everyone, my name is James.

I am not entirely sure if this post is suitable for this sub but I thought I would share with you anyway, please remove otherwise. I'm a filmmaker and a few years ago I made a short film (Caretaker) about the death of my grandmother (Pat) but told through the eyes of my mother (Sue), I wanted to translate what that experience is like onto film in a way that I don't think has been done yet. Pat had a long and difficult battle with Alzheimer's for almost ten years, words can't properly articulate what that's like, to see someone slowly succumb to a disease like dementia and even harder to express the emotions and pain you feel both for that person and within yourself.

Part of the reason why I'm posting this is because I am currently in the process of turning this personal story into a feature film, something which is becoming increasingly hard to do in this day and age without the right amount of 'clout' behind you. One of the ways I intend to gain backing and support for the project is through the conversations I intend to start with charities like Alzheimer's Research & Society with the hopes to get enough backing to get the project funded.

The title of Caretaker itself is inspired by James Leyland Kirby, a musician who created pieces of music that articulates the experience of dementia. I would highly recommend anyone interested in how artists articulate the disease through their work to check him out.

Here's a link to his work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJWksPWDKOc&list=RDwJWksPWDKOc&start_radio=1

I want this personal story of Pat & Sue to reach out and touch the lives of many who have walked down the same isolating road of caring for someone who birthed and raised you whilst they slowly disappear right in front of you. This is where I ask for anyone who has the time or interest to kindly please watch Caretaker and tell me your own experiences with the ones close to you who are currently suffering due to Alzheimer's. I intend to create something we can all connect to, something that everyone can find some sense of understanding in and most importantly something that can help you find peace.

Thanks again,

James

What horror movie scene scared you the most?

For me, it’s the card scene in Sometimes They Come Back…Again. Admittedly, I watched this movie when I was way too young, but even seeing these photos from the scene and thinking of the scene gives me chills. Haven’t watched this movie again to this day.

80s style horror short

Hello, all ! I am an indie creator that aims to make films with an analog feel to them , as well as an 80s horror vibe . Here’s my most recent one I did shot on an old Sony sr40 . Would mean everything to me if you checked it out and let me know how I did . I know the audio gets a bit distorted toward the end , apologize for that in advance .

I want to know if I did well in building an atmosphere. How did the film make you feel? Was it scary? Or at the very most , creepy ? Let me know!

Your Favourite Obscure/Rare Gem Horrors From The 80s?

We’ve all heard the classics, let’s give the obscure films some love!

I love an absurd, crazy 80s film. Any sub genre, slasher, possession, psychological, whatever :)
MASSIVE bonuses for fun costumes/styling for the characters + colourful lighting and sets.

The trees never wanted to be green, but green sure is a beautiful colour. Would God think that too?
