Cover Art for Mystery Romance

Hi everyone!

I’m looking to commission an artist for the cover of my debut novel, which I’m hoping to release in October 2026.

I’m looking for a realistic, painterly style (digital painting or scanned traditional painting is totally fine). The story follows two African-American college students, so they’d be the main focus of the cover.

The book is a romantic mystery set at a private university in Atlanta. It’s emotional, a little dark, and romance is a big part of the story. Some other elements are a secret society, a missing girl, the Moirai, a Rhinestone Cowboy, and elements of black southern culture. Together, we can decide what would go best on the cover!

One thing I really love is book covers that tell a story. I’d love to work with someone who’s excited to collaborate and creatively incorporate different elements from the novel into the artwork instead of just drawing two characters standing together.
My budget is under $600 USD.

If you’re interested, I’d love to see your portfolio, pricing, and turnaround time! Thanks so much—I can’t wait to find the right artist for this project.

Cover (and website) I created for my alt-history novel.

I'm an award-winning illustrator/designer and also a writer (this is my first novel). Please let me know what you think of it. I'm also open to commissioned work so reach out if interested. Thanks for your time.

My book cover for CHIVEY (Literary Fiction / Southern Gothic / Magical Realism)

Hi everyone! I'm an author and illustrator currently working on my novel, CHIVEY. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the mood this cover conveys. It's a digital oil painting created in Rebelle. Thanks for any feedback!

Children's book cover

I create different scenes with the same characters, and im working on keeping my style consistent. My main goal is to illustrate picture books for children, though with the specific skills i have i think i would be better suited for doing covers rather than a whole picture book (For now). What do you think?

What do you think of my book cover?

I created this on Canva and it's my first fully self-made cover so I wanted to check it wasn't complete rubbish.

It's for a cute fun sapphic fantasy novella. Unfortunately I can't afford to pay someone to make it. So I gotta go the diy route 😅

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Need help picking a cover

Edit: if you want to know the artists that create these amazing covers, they are tagged on my Instagram @poppyharrows (except 2 people who did not give me socials)

I decided to run a (paid) competition for the cover of my upcoming debut Dark Romantasy book - I aimed it at students or people who are just hiding in the background, sitting on some serious talent and the submissions I got were AMAZING.

But now I need to pick one.😩

I will admit, going into this, I had no idea what makes a good cover, and I was only really fascinated by the art.

Since then, I have read a lot about how the cover needs to signal the genre, the vibe, etc. But I was hoping there were some published authors floating about who would lend their eyes to these 16 covers and tell me what you think would be a good fit, but also what would be a good style/subject matter for the next 5 books to come 😬

(I have not tagged the artist in the post because I only have their Instagram handles and do not have permission to share first names, but if you like a style/design and are also looking for art, comment the number of the post (in red), and I will send you to their Instagram - these people need support!)

Help me plan my cover

I need some ideas on creating book covers. It for a LitRPG/isekai. My question; do you think the focus should be the MC, the abilities, an enemy, important scenery, the UI stating class and such, or something completely different? I've tried looking for inspiration from different covers out there, there is such a variety, not sure which avenue to take. Also, is there a certain type of art style people prefer with this genre? I plan on breaking out the sketch pad and drawing it up myself, just needed some ideas.

[Hiring] Cover Designer for Sapphic Poetry Book

EDIT: I found someone!!!
Leaving this post up so the creators who commented can still have their work visible.

Thank you to all who reached out.

Hi,

I’m in the editing stages of my sapphic/lesbian poetry book and looking for a cover designer. Am open to your ideas, but must involve the theme of “lavender and indigo”. Having a striking and unique but still highly readable font is important to me as well.

I’m looking for a print cover and an ebook cover, with the understanding that whatever is designed has to look good in thumbnail too.

Priority given to those who are LGBTQIA2S+ ◡̈

Budget is $200-$300

TIA

EDIT AND VERY IMPORTANT

It is a requirement of mine that NO AI be used anywhere on, near, or involving my work. You must be willing to sign an agreement as such. I want human work only!!!

Having a second cover made for my book and this is the final product.

So when I first published, I heard my cover was terrible. I had it professionally done from Reedsy, but it didn’t match the genre.

I recently hired a new artist, and went through the process with him. He’s got a lot of good work on Reedsy, a large portfolio and a lot of good reviews.

We went through a lot of changes to the mockups and I decided on the one you see. Mind you, I THOUGHT they were just mockups. Like, “here’s about what it’ll look like, and I’ll make it look better before it’s fully done”. But this is what he sent.

My issue is; I thought my last cover looked good and it flopped. So idk if I have the best eye for what actually looks good. But I’m not super happy with this one and don’t know where to go or what to ask for.

What do yall think?

Before and After

Hey everyone! A couple of days ago, I asked for your feedback on the cover for my upcoming novel, Shadow of the First Sin, and the tips I received helped me immensely.

The first image is the "before" version, and the second is the "after." Following your suggestions, I added shading to give the central figure more definition, making it easier to tell the hair and face apart. I also added some subtle shading to the body, toned down the colors so they aren't quite as harsh, and corrected the text placement.

I’m definitely open to more tips if you have them, but otherwise, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who weighed in!

[For Hire] Another cover I worked on! Open for new opportunities~

Hii everyone! Here's another horror book cover I illustrated in the past for my guy Matt! Fun fact: that's my own hand! Matt is a frequent client of mine and there are 2 book covers I made for him with hands on it: this one and another one that he will publish in October, this time featuring my dad's hand! This new book he's working on is a follow up to his previous story "The Morningstar Confession" (which I also illustrated :P)

Feedback on cover?

Just looking for some feedback. I went with Miblart, and I absolutely love the work they did. My only concern is that I'm not seeing many typographical covers in the romance market anymore.

This will be my my debut novel, a dark fantasy romance, so I'd love to hear your honest thoughts.

Fantasy Covers aesthetic feedback (handmade)

Hello everyone!

I am making my own covers and I was trying to find a certain style to go with for my works. Writing is a hobby and passion (one can only work so much). So, I would like to ask you how these covers look to you, if you get the "fantasy" feeling and any comments and feedback would be welcome. First image is my newest cover while the second one is from my previous work.
